Yes, I know. I wasn't aware I stated otherwise.

I thought the Rapture was an exclusively Catholic idea??

Unless Catholics over there are wierd, no. The idea was invented by American evangelicals in the 19th century. According to Rome, the evangelical Rapture is a heresy.

There is nothing in the Bible specifically referred to as "Rapture," however, there are passages speaking of a woman who will vanish next to another woman and so forth -- which leads to the idea of the rapture. There are varying theories on just what those passages mean -- many take them at purely symbolic value. I imagine that the Roman Catholics do.

There is a bumper sticker that some put on their car, which reads:
Come the rapture, this car will be abandoned.

Us nonbelievers came up with a better one:
Come the rapture, can I have your car?

not

how likely is this to happen?
It depends on if you get called up. If you get called up, then it's going to be a good thing. If not, it all depends on what your beliefs are. I'm sure there are some here who would love to live in a Christian-free world, even though they would have been proven wrong. Personally, I'm not sure whether I would rather see it or not. It might help if you would clarify which view of the rapture you are talking about. There's the Pre-Tribulation view(before the 7 years), the Mid-Tribulation view(3.5 years into the Tribulation), and the Post-Tribulation view.

Are you sure? According to the story, Satan grew discontent and formed a rebellion against God's empire. That is not the action of someone who is happy. So being in Heaven does not necessarily make you happy; how do you know you'll enjoy it there? For all you know, it's more like Baghdad under the Baath party and Saddam Hussein.

It wouldn't be a Christian-free world. According to the myth, only a select few are taken up. The rest of them, Christian or not, get to stay.

Since the Tribulation is supposed to involve a vast amount of death and suffering, I don't see how there can be any question that it's a bad thing.

Not necessarily. Fundamentalist Catholics especially in the Southern US believe in the "End Times" which is simply rapture with a new name to iy. It's virtually like rapture with the exculsion of the 2 bilion or 1/3 of the population dead and mass genocie. They don't necessarily believe in dogma but the idea is mixed up with catholic Dogma and Protestant preaching you can't tell the ideas apart. So yes, in short rapture is preached just less well violent.

Since there's a lot of death and suffering, some conspiracy theorists believe that the Tribulation is going to happen very soon. But will it somehow involve the UN siding with The Devil?

I'm sorry but if God loves us, WHY end the world? Is he really that twisted that he just feels like offing BILLIONS of his own creation? It makes no sense other than a stick to use in relation to the carrot of eternal life. All the actions of GOd are so contradictory in the bible that I'm shocked there are as many believers as there are. One minute they're telling us God is love, God loves us all even if we're evil....that is until God decides to wipe the slate clean for no good reason and save only a select few of his precious creations.
