Feel the irony

Post by Dark Hellion »

Yes, i know it is not really irony but i still find it funny that the members of this board try and stand as a bastion of grammar against idiot 12 year old speak. I mean we sit here and debate wether Star Wars can take on some science fiction universe from Zimbabwe and we hold ourselves against the little kids who say "i luv u 2, cya gtg bff".
Anyone else find this subtley amusing.

I do, but then again I find quite a few aspects of the vs. debates amusing in themselves, especially when it gets out of hand and becomes all-out immature.

But idiot 12 year old speak is a sign of ignorance. Debating science fiction universes while not useful or productive requires an understanding of science and logic. It's considered geeky by most people because it involves (or should involve) intelligent thought. Now compare it to 12 year old idiot speak...

No, I don't find it amusing or ironic. Using language best suited to IM can lead to confusion, not to mention its annoying at times to try and read someone else's internet shorthand.

Im by no means a grammar champion, but being able to effectively communicate in writing is a good skill to have.

Yeah, and you know what'd be really amusing? You shutting the hell up.

The destruction of grammatical standards of language is not something I find amusing in the slightest. When I read of young people now using such dialects in their school work, I get angry. We've stopped teaching the fundamentals of language. It's all well and good to teach students math and science and computers, but I wonder how they will ever write a coherent research paper!

Horrors that discussions involving actual science should also utilize actual words.
