"God told me to do it", how many times is that heard?

Though when you ask other Christians, they would probably say that it wasn't really God that made those people kill, it was really Satan tricking them.DPDarkPrimus wrote:I've noticed that you hear that a lot more often these days then "The Devil made me do it"... interesting, no?Zoink wrote:How about we blame the bible?

They always have an excuse, don't they? I think it'd be phunny if they all found out YHWH was really Satan all along (or that Satan is really the Good Guy). After all, every bit of evidence about Christianity verily screams it!neoolong wrote:Though when you ask other Christians, they would probably say that it wasn't really God that made those people kill, it was really Satan tricking them.DPDarkPrimus wrote:I've noticed that you hear that a lot more often these days then "The Devil made me do it"... interesting, no?Zoink wrote:How about we blame the bible?

"I say we take it a step further and blame everything bad on music! Hitler killed 6 million people because he listened to Slipknot the night before! Stalin purged because he listened to Slayer! The Crusaders were fans of Ozzy Osbourne! Pol Pot, Mao, Saddam, and bin Laden were all results of listening to Heavy Metal!"
Seriously, why do they use music, TV, and video games as some scapegoat for everything bad nowadays? Why not blame bad parenting, or irresponibility on the killer's part? Are we supposed to assume that these people were perfect little angels until the listened to some Heavy Metal, where they turned into cold-blodded murderers? Besides, millions of people play violent video games, lisetn to Heavy Metal, or see violoent movies. How come only a few deranged individuals are supposedly influenced by them to kill someone?

They use music as a scapegoat so they won't have to take the blame themselves. Another trend I notice: this society is evolving away from one of personal responsibility and 'Love Thy Neighbor' into one of placing-blame-for-money-gain and 'Murder the Heathens'.Asst. Asst. Lt. Honestly, I don't see the current state of affairs lasting fifty years without either societal paralysis or a really bloody revolution. Too much greed, hate, Fundies, Taxes, Pigopolies, and Lawyers.

Why is this whole debate reminding me of the Lyrics to a Warren Zevon song.....
actually hold on I can go back a few hundred years and find songs about murder, robbery, etc.
Anyone notice that "Blow the man down." is about kidnapping,
There's a number of "Highwayman Balads" from the 16th through 18th century.
There's "Maddy Groaves" which involves Adultry, Rape by Cooercine (Sleep with me or ELSE), Murder and coverups.
it's not music that is plainly clear to anyone outside of Fox news.

The scariest folk song lyrics are "My Boy Grew up to be just like me" from cats in the cradle by Harry Chapin

This reminds me of something....Baron Scarpia wrote:Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring" sparked a huge fist-fight at its premiere in Paris in 1912, and it spilled out into the streets, causing a riot.
Suppose we should ban Stravinsky then?
Due to Richard Wagner's connections to the Nazis, his music is still banned in Israel. Or so I've heard. There's definately a lot of Israeli musicians who refuse to perform Wagner.
Also, during WW2, American radio stations weren't allowed to play Wagner either....

Just plain stupid. Wagner died in 1883, so there's no connection between him and the Nazis. Hell, the Nazis loved Bruckner, Brahms, Beethoven and Mozart, too. I don't see anyone making a move to shun their music.Simon H.Johansen wrote:This reminds me of something....Baron Scarpia wrote:Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring" sparked a huge fist-fight at its premiere in Paris in 1912, and it spilled out into the streets, causing a riot.

I doubt Wagner is banned in Israel...I have seen recordings of Zubin Mehta conducting the Israel Phil in Wagner. Any musician who refuses to play Wagner because of Nazism deserves a swift kick in the ass for being dumb.
I believe in the Holy Trinity: Bach the Father, Beethoven the Son and Brahms the Holy Ghost.
