A question about racism

Why is it ok for black people to call other black people a nigger, but if a white person calls a black person a nigger he gets sued?

I am not trying to be a donkey fucking racist like arminius, i am asking a question because i want to know the answer.

It is the logic of taking on a term of insult to belittle those who use it as such, there are more examples of this, but i can't think of many right now.

That's a very good question. I wish I knew the answer. The blacks who do yell racism over such things are much like our WCOTC friends. I really wish I understood why people feel like this. I think it just makes them look even more like the idiots they are.

The common answer to this is that with the main verbal weapon against blacks being words such as “Negro” and “nigger” the newer generations decided to nullify the effect of such words by adopting them for themselves.

In essence, they use the language that was normally derogatory to them in a pseudo-friendly way, just to make racist bigots have less of an effect against them by using such words. Homosexuals also use the term “gay” to refer to themselves as well, a word that originally was used against their kind.

I beleive I can answer this question:

when peeps of recent african-american ancestry use that word to each other, it becomes a case of taking a derogatory word that was historically used to denigrate/insult/terrorize and claiming it as their own to express a form of solidarity -- those who use it and are the recipients of it know that such expression is the intent. when someone of another 'racial' group (see my post in the interracial relationship thread for for why 'racial' is in quotes) uses the term, the intent of the word is no longer clear, and is assumed by the african-american as being intended to denigrate/insult/terrorize.
