Pro-choice people against the dealth penalty
or
Pro-life people in favor of the death penalty
Another thing I've been thinking of lately.

Pro-choice people against the dealth penalty. The death penalty is used on deserving criminals whereas abortion is against a person that is completely innocent. How can they actually say that the life of criminal is worth more than that of a of an innocent child.
Pro-life and pro death penalty is not necessarily hypcritical. As said before, the death penalty is for a deserving criminal whereas abortion kills a complete innocent.

Someone close this thread before it turns into a flamefest.
It's not my place in life to make people happy. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to watch me slaughter cows you hold sacred. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to have your basic assumptions challenged. If you want bunnies in light, talk to someone else.

Indeed,
But the Aboraition depabate itself is better served to be kept to another thread.
The best response I use for anti-Aborition fokes is this, Give them a Hi Five, then kindly inform them they just killed more Cells than are in the avarage human child during the first three months after conception
Its not true but it makes a heck-ave a good point

So lying in a debate is how YOU win mr bean? It'd be a good point if true but it isn't.Mr Bean wrote:Indeed,

The fact is the Hi-Five does not kill as many as you think but if one must minse points I'd be happy to switch over to the older, Thumb in a lighter flame exampleSo lying in a debate is how YOU win mr bean? It'd be a good point if true but it isn't.
The point is valid even if that particlar example does not kill as many cells as you think
Or another example, Ever brushed your teeth? In five mintues of brushing you kill more that way
Ever exist for a single day? Kill more that way too

Someone already pointed out that the analogy is flawed, but I'll give a specific counter-example.
Whether the views are hypocritical depends on how people view the status of an embryo. Some see it as a human with all associated rights, some see it as a ball of cells with the interesting property that it could become a human granting it a few rights, but, in general, leaving it well and truly subordinate to the rights of the mother.
Someone holding the latter view (such as myself) can quite easily be pro-choice, while opposing the death penalty (I view the small chance that an innocent individual may be falsely convicted and executed as far too high a price to pay for the dubious benefit of declaring certain individuals unfit to live. The use of the death penalty is a sign of ultimate societal failure - it is saying "You are worthless to us. We can learn nothing from interacting with you. Rather than trying to understand you, and the course of your life that lead to you becoming what you are, we are just going to disclaim all responsibility, kill you, and try to forget you ever existed. Your existence makes us uncomfortable, and we would prefer not to think about the fact of your existence.")
Yeah, I'm a hypocrite all right.

Oh, and I agree with Stormbringer that making the distinction between the innocence of the purported child, and the adjudged guilt of the executed adult means it is possible to hold the opposing views to mine without being a hypocrite either.
