With the latest surgeries, the sensate material is never actually removed from the body; everything else in the penis is removed, but the strip of nerve tissues connecting the head of the penis to the body is retained intact throughout, so that the sensate material is never once separated from the rest of the body and no nerve connections must be regenerated for full sensation in the material. It is simply reshaped to be appropriate in appearance for a clitoris and fixed in the appropriate place on the body while the nerve connections remain intact. The actual skin from the rest of the penis is stripped off to be used along with the scrotal tissue in the construction of the pseudovagina, and the spongelike tissue which is the majority of the penis is simply discarded.
