Which leads to the question, How far up or down the scale can you go to use radiation the same way we use light?

Please define "same way". If you mean "using biological means", i.e. eyes, I'd guess not much farther than 360 nm. Hydrogen ionizes at that wavelength, so biological matter would degrade rather quickly. Going further down with the wavelength quickly leads into two problems: Not only do you run out of suitable materials for lenses, as Junghalli said, you also start to venture in the realm of soft x-rays, where the interesting things get transparent - read: mostly invisible.

Actually, that raises a question: can you administer sedatives that Shrommy mentions by means other than a needle or gas but without leaving any traceable evidence? For the moment, we'll be doubtful that aliens poison our food.

I thought tiny unexplained physical marks that you didn't notice beforehand was a centerpiece for alien abductees since it is an exciting evidence that proves that something did happen to them that they can't remember and only further fuels their paranoia and delusions and affirms the notion that aliens did do all sorts of anal probing to them before hypnotizing their memories or something?

I'm not sure about the "surpress conscious memory but leave unconscious memories that can be recovered through hypnosis" thing, but I imagine surpressing memories might well be easier than eliminating them entirely.

It could be the case that the aliens do use nanomachines or some other method to conduct memory erasing surguries on abductees and they simply abduct A LOT more people than we realize. We might only hear about the abductions from the small percentage of individuals on whom the surgury was botched or it simply failed to produce the desired effect.

Who's to say that "eh...fuck it" attitudes are limited to human beings alone?
