What would you go to war for?

I'd go to war for a job. I was kicked out of the navy, so I can't join today, but if I could, I'd take the job since it seems to be kicking up again.

I'll naturally let the Fundies kill themselves before they get too your unit. But anyway whats up with everyone being a Sniper? I'd rather be a Tanker or Paratrooper, jjumping out of the sky at 35000 feet has it's kicks. But of course I'd hope too atleast acheive Divisional Command before I try at my bid for power, prefereably a Joint Chief or Chairman of them..

To protect others, to lay down my life, as one of the less valuable drones. Hell yes, After all I have already put my life on the line when I was much younger, cand crew firefighting, and some structural firefighting.

In all cases, it's a moot point, as being 13 I cannot be legally drafted into the army.

Assuming I was old enough I would likely sign up for the officer corps. I'd prefer to command the troops that are getting shot at then get shot at.

Let's say further that the army is hard-pressed to contain the hostilities alone for whatever reason. You realize that every soldier counts to guarantee victory, and if your side should lose, you lose some element of your freedom or are exiled/persecuted/killed for your differences. What would you fight for? Some people will not fight for their ideals (I ain't shooting nobody, for example, but I'd fight against, say the aliens from Independance Day). Suppose, to start, these conditions:

a) Fundamentalists have organized by the millions and are trying to eradicate your faith/sexual orientation/gender with force. The army is divided because of conflicts of commands from government leaders and commands from spiritual leaders. War erupts. You are known as not part of the fundamentalist group.

c) Foreign invaders (conquest-oriented). Another country - or intelligent species - have instigated a war of conquest against your country/planet in persuit of resources and territory, and to eliminate military rivals.

d) Political Revolutionists/Civil War. The country has become divided on political issues and civil war erupts between political or geographical groups within your country. Your side supports your ideal form of government, and your opponents have political ideals opposed to yours and intend to govern in a manner incredibly opposed to how you want to live.

a) *groan* Give me a break....

c) Gimme a gun and let me at 'em. Not regular military, of course. I'd
join a militia.

d) They're entitled to their stupid-ass system of government - as long as
they keep it away from me. Let them have their own country. I'll push
them out of my country/state if I have to, but I wouldn't dare intrude
on their lives. That would make me no better than them.

Which is why I will never lead from the front.

Besides, there's less chance of being killed if you reduce the threat to just one well-placed, well-timed bullet. Charging headlong into a thousand-round projectile buffet does not, in my opinion, qualify.

For option a, yes. Death to Fundies! After all, I have to ensure the survival of the human race, and letting fundie morons run amuck won't help. Option c depends on how powerful the enemy forces are. If they outmatch us and we don't stand a chance in hell, I'm defecting. For option d, as long they let me play video games not made by or for Microsoft, it's cool.
