Let's see Previous incarnations of this defense...
U2, Covering the Beatles wrote:’this is a song charles manson stole from the beatles.
we’re stealing it back.’

When you get to the bottom
You go back to the top of the slide
And you stop and you turn
And you go for a ride
Till you get to the bottom
Then you see me again

Do you, don’t you want me to love you?
I’m coming down fast, but I’m miles above you
Tell me, tell me, tell me the answer
You may be a lover but you ain’t no dancer

Helter skelter
Helter skelter
Helter skelter

Do you, don’t you want me to make you?
Coming down fast I don’t want me to break you
Tell me , tell me, tell me the answer
You may be a lover but you ain’t no dancer

Helter skelter
Helter skelter
Helter skelter

Sympathy for the Devil wrote:Please allow me to introduce myself
I’m a man of wealth and taste
I’ve been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man’s soul and faith
And I was ’round when jesus christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what’s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game
I stuck around st. petersburg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the czar and his ministers
Anastasia screamed in vain
I rode a tank
Held a general’s rank
When the blitzkrieg raged
And the bodies stank
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name, oh yeah
Ah, what’s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah
I watched with glee
While your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades
For the gods they made
I shouted out,
"who killed the kennedys? "
When after all
It was you and me
Let me please introduce myself
I’m a man of wealth and taste
And I laid traps for troubadours
Who get killed before they reached bombay
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But what’s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah, get down, baby
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But what’s confusing you
Is just the nature of my game
Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me lucifer
’cause I’m in need of some restraint
So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I’ll lay your soul to waste, um yeah
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, um yeah
But what’s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, um mean it, get down
Woo, who
Oh yeah, get on down
Oh yeah
Oh yeah!
Tell me baby, what’s my name
Tell me honey, can ya guess my name
Tell me baby, what’s my name
I tell you one time, you’re to blame
Ooo, who
Ooo, who
Ooo, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Oh, yeah
What’s me name
Tell me, baby, what’s my name
Tell me, sweetie, what’s my name
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Oh, yeah

According to testimony by San Bernardino police detectives, Jason
Lamar Harris, 20, and Amber Rose Riley, 16, admitted to killing a
twenty-two-year-old man after listening to SLIPKNOT. The case is
the second in the southern California county in which a murder
suspect admitted to musical motivation. Jonathan Lee Stephenson,
18, was arrested for an April 2nd murder of a teenage girl,
allegedly citing CANNIBAL CORPSE lyrics. In May, the American
Psychological Association issued a report claiming songs with
violent lyrics are capable of increasing aggressive thoughts and
emotions.

----People are such fucking idiots it makes me sick. Well FUCKING DUH aggressive lyrics can get you riled up, THAT'S THE FUCKING POINT! But still, whatever happened to personal responsibility? Ah yes: lawsuits are more lucrative.
In the last year, there have been two cases of women murdering their own children because they were trying to save their souls from damnation by killing them while in a state of grace. By the same logic we see being used against music, the Bible is to blame for those killings.

Interesting how no one would ever be willing to publicly point this out, though ...

You need to be famous, and yet have the balls to risk alienating your fanbase by daring to speak the truth.

I've always found it amusing how most celebrities have just enough courage to carefully declare that which their existing fanbase is already known to condone. And then they pay themselves on the back for doing it.

[rant mode]This is getting more and more OT, but is anyone else sick of those "Marijuana: it's more dangerous than we all thought commercials"? They trot out their bullshit "1 in 3 reckless drivers that were using drugs were using marijuana" statistic, as if that proves their point. Out of all drug use (and we're using the gummint's definition of drug, which means no alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, etc.), how much do you think is pot? Probably like 95% or more, yet only 1/3 of reckless drivers were using pot? Looks like your statistic shows the opposite of what you wanted it to, you lying assholes![/rant]

Ya' know, it's ironic. The same people today who are jabbering on an on about the Satanic message of Marilyn Manson's music are from the same generation that loved to listen to the Rolling Stones, a band that billed itself at one point as Their Satanic Majesties, sing about how groovy it is to be Satan.

On that note, what the fuck happened to the Rolling Stones? The same band that once sang about Sympathy for the Devil now sings a fucking piece of shit song called "God gave me everything I want". Not only are the lyrics repetitive and stupid, but the song simply sucks as music (in fact, I think all of their recent stuff sucks).

That song's actually not Stones, that's off of Mick's solo album. Their new stuff is definitely underwhelming but they still put on a hell of a live show, for what it's worth.

and yea i will say that coffee is more rage inducing than weed, since weed REDUCES rage. You know, I too and getting pissed off by all this scapegoating that is being done, throwing the blame on parties that are not responsible for the invididual/s actions, pointing the finger at anyone but the society that brought those people up.

A similiar situation just went down here in Jersey. Some kids were caught trying to do "Columbine" style massacre, before they could pull it off. I bought all the local, and some national newspapers for that day, and everyone of them had a frontpage coverage, as well as other articles later in the papers about the issue. The majority of the articles pointed the blame at the fact that the "ring leader" liked The Matrix (yes, I'm dead serious), dressed gothic, and played video games. In a 2 by 2 article, that was overshadowed by the several large, 2 page consuming articles before in in the NY Post, it is mentioned that these things are not the problem. The problem lies that the kid/s were bullied all their lives throughout school. That their is a society problem with rejecting people that are "different."

I'm so fucking sick of people scapegoating their problems on people of a particlar type, be it goth or whatever, and dismissing the blame by saying that everyone of that particular type is a problem, and continue to teach people that it's alright to fear these people and isolate them, furthering the problems. It's ok to teach people that one person/ a select few is representative of the whole. That's really fair a logical.

I absolutely CANNOT wait until some preppy, pop-music liking person wreaks mass-homicide so that I can turn around a point the finger at them like they have been us.
"And as I promised, I said I would read from the bible..." "...And if we could turn our bible to Pslams..."Happy shall he be that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones." (Pslams 137:9) So let me ask you a question? Who is the worst influence, God or Marilyn Manson?" "God!" "And if that's not the best fucking example, God HIMSELF killed his own MOTHER FUCKING SON!"-Marilyn Manson

We've already had two multiple child-murders in the last couple of years by Bible-thumpers (killing their own children). Of course, no one dares mention that connection, so I suspect that your example would be no different if it occurred.

In a related story, a California lawyer sued the band Slayer because these three or four kids in a local death metal band killed and then raped this virgin girl as a sacrifice to Satan. This lawyer was the same guy that got them to take down the Joe Camel ads, so he's obvisously an asshole.

Anyhew, Slayer won the case because the judge dismissed it (good for him!)

In the words of one of the kids: "Slayer changes you, man...It get insides you."

Ugh.

PS: Why's Satan need sacrifices? He doesn't kill people. :?
