Fuck Buffalo, I live in NYC there's a fucking sea of red strike zones from the city up all along the island. I read somewhere that the Russians intentionally targetted several areas along the coast of Long ISland, in particular the Hamptons to get some of the political and wealthy elite who summered there.

Blah, I knew it was a bad idea to live close to the automobile producing capitol of the world. I told my mom, "When the Ruskies get pissed they'll nuke us sky high." And all she said was, "Then we'll add an extra layer of paint to our house."

That's what you get for living in the biggest target in the western world. On the bright side (get it? nukes=bright! ahahahahahaha...I slay me), you and I are in pretty much the same situation. If you look at New Jersey, just south of Camden, there are several explosions with their hypocenter actually on the Jersey side of the river (as opposed to the blasts in Pennslyvania). I'm basically sitting right underneath one of them.

See that group of 'em to the right of orlando? I'm in the middle of those, with more all around me. I'd have pretty much no chance. I guess that's a consequence of living by an Air Force Base (Patrick), the Kennedy Space Center, and an airport (Merritt Island Airport, doesn't take many big planes, but it probably could, so it gets a bomb)
You think that's bad? Tampa Bay is getting hit by a goodly number of groundbursts to take out the two major airports, MacDill AFB, probably hits to knock out the shipyards, seaports, the old DOE plant...

Dad, sis and that side of family killed in Portland. Mom would survive though, because the nearest strike is in Denver which is 200~ miles away on the other side of the mountains. Grandparents on mom's side might survive, depending on the terrain between here and Elmendorf AFB

Hey, it could be worse... in a conventional bombing campaign, the Russians were expected to go after nuclear power stations. It'd be like Chernobyl, several times over and on a much smaller landmass.
(Actually, scratch "it could be worse". Replace with "almost exactly the friggin' same, near as dammit".) :x

Indianapolis gets 3. I know one because of its population, another because of the chrysler factory, and im assuming the third is for the international airport.

The town where I live might be close enough to be on the fringe of the airport blasts, altho even if it isnt, the fallout would get us.

Ahem, I also live really close to Port Canaveral, which is the home of the Naval Ordanance Test Unit, and a major port. Also, there tends to be subs berthed there a lot. In fact, the Wyoming (SSBN 742) might still be there, with its 24 missiles. (off-topic: I took a tour, it's really weird to be standing 2 feet away from a big missile tube like that).

I think we're both screwed.

To determine if you're in a target zone, you don't need a map. Just figure out if any of these things are nearby:

-Nuclear missile silos (duh)
-Ballistic missile submarine base (duh)
-Air force base capable of handling intercontinental nuclear bombers (runways greater than 7000 feet, IIRC). (duh)

These three things will be hit in any nuclear war.

-Civilian airports with runways greater than 7000 feet, and all international airports
-Oil terminals
-Container ports
-Major rail yards
-Oil refineries, steel mills, auto assembly plants, chemical plants
-Major rail or highway junctions
-Large power plants (including all nuclear plants--nuclear plants will be hit with groundbursts to crack the reinforced concrete shield over the reactor)
-Dams
-Command and control centers
-A state capital
-Major population centers (greater than 100,000 people)
-Road or rail bridges over major geographical obstacles (the Mississippi River, for instance)
-Chokepoint mountain passes
-Miscellaneous industrial sites like aircraft testing facilities or major military contractor headquarters, if outside a major city

And you guys think *you* have it bad... take a look at the California map.

Yes, that's right, the Los Angeles area alone might get hit with about twenty nukes. Wonderful place to be, huh?

My old place in Minnesota gets squashed. The Twin Cities get five nukes, being a state capital, population center, home of a major airport and riverine transportation. And then we have to deal with all the fallout from the Dakota missile fields.

My new residence is even worse. The entire SF bay area gets plastered.

I don't know much about SoCal. What's so important about the area west of Santa Barbara that they're dropping nukes so densely there?

That would be Vandenburg AFB, which (I think) may still have operational ICBMs stationed there. They use it mostly for Delta-IV satellite launches now, however.

Edit: Yes, it definitely has operational ICBMs: Peacekeepers and Minuteman IIIs. Plus a hell of a lot of satellite boosters.

It's also the location of a lot of aircraft testing facilities and probably some shit the general public doesn't know about. That's got to be the reason for those nukes going off in the middle of nowhere in Nevada and Utah.

Nebraska has ICBMs, therfore a lot of ground bursts, and fallout.

naval air station
national guard base
submarine construction yard
power plant
the naval war college

D'oH!

EDIT: just a note, according to the chart i am exactly at ground zero because my apt. is at the center of the blast just south of providence. yay!

Let's see:

* Aircraft hydraulics factory
* Aircraft heat exchanger factory
* Aircraft electrical systems factory
* One of the plants that makes DU tank rounds for Royal Ordinance
* Government communications node (A BT microwave tower, in other words. It's actually semi-nuke proof - well, the tower itself is.)

And I'm on the same side of town as all of them (not that being on the other side of town would make much difference). Great. :(
