Theres a fine diffence between normal Indornation(IE what the avarage Christian family does to thier kids) which the Moormons for the most part seem to follow

And the total and COMPLETE indotronation that the JW's force thier followers through

It was right before the Winter Olympics and the city council was on that hole beautification and more business for downtown binge. So I say anyone with the money and a plan to "improve" (though the park looks nice taking away a block worth of street, in a city that has really bad traffic flow, wasn't the best idea) downtown would have had a pretty good chance.

As for your statements my Lord Wong: yes the LDS church has access to a butt-load of money but most of that goes to building and maintaining Temples and Church buildings. As for not allowing blacks into the church thats a lie. From the beginning anyone could join. But blacks were not allowed to hold the Priesthood until 1978. That's just twenty-five years ago. Quite sometime after the major civil rights movement. And as for the government taking away our tax-exempt status that would be against the law since any church can admit or block anyone from their congregation that they so choose. Though we have never blocked anyone who was worthy (this sentence ain't gonna go over well).

Side note: We are the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day-Saints, LDS, Mormon, or Crazed Cult Fanatics. Not the Church of Mormon or the Church of Christ. The latter is a completely different church, something one of my Drill Instructors could never quite understand.
I can not think of any other corporate interest that bought a street in the middle of the city to turn into a park. Not a lot by a street, the freakin street itself. The "church" uses its money to buy streets, large tracts of land, corporate fronts ie desseret ind, dessert news, dessert books, congressmen, women, and senetors.
The people can be nice, or asses depending on the people but the climate is one of elitism. We belong to the "church", which one? you know THE CHURCH. The actual organization of the LDS church is bent on the domination of the landscape know as Utah, and have pretty much won that fight. I know I sound bitter, but I've lived with this crap all my life and I consider it one of my buttons.
Funny side note, when I was in the military and got married I unknowingly got a apartment right next to a mormon church. Ofcoarse I noticed the church when I got the place, but since I am not religeous I did not think to see what denomination it was. Boy when they saw my licence plate(UT plates)......Whew, I had missionaries at my door every two minutes for a week. It finaly took some drastic measures to get rid off them. Like my ugly ass answering the door naked, shouting satanic profanity with some ungodly music in the background. But seeing a pissed off naked, ugly Marine yelling obsenities that would turn you guys red and probably kill my mother seemed to do the trick.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

They believe that the afterlife for hardcore sinners isn't as nice as those of the faithful, but they don't believe it's the eternal torture that is the regularly-accepted Judeo-Christian ideal of Hell.

Again, IIRC, the best of the faithful go to the best afterlife, a middle afterlife for those who weren't always good but not always bad, and a lower afterlife for the baddies.
Ah yes, so the next time someone comes to "convert" you, you can just say something along the lines of "hmm, not bad, not bad, So I can be an evil asshole and still avoid hell you say..." :D

Indeed they do. They just call it "Outer Darkness", but for all intents and purposes, it's hell (Satan and his minions live there, it's the worst place you can be sent to, etc.). However, they believe that very, very, VERY few people will actually be sent to such a place... even murderers and child rapists won't be dumped there.

Hmm, I see. Sorry for being incorrect.

Eh, its all good. Besides I must admit, my memory of 4 years ago is shoddy at best. Of course I was a junior in highschool then, and it was one of those times where i would prefer not to reminice about. Well, for the most part anyways.

Actually being a now nonbelieving mormon, the sin that gets you sent to OUter Darkness is apostasy,"denying Christ having been given a perfect knowledge of him."

Well you have good Mormons, Like Orson Scott Card. People who will discuss their faith if you want to, but don't feel the need to beat your head in with it.

You have Neutral Mormons, like the kind who go door to door, but will leave (and not come back) when you ask them to.

And then there are the stupid Mormons who think its their personal mission from God himself to convert you through sheer persistance of willpower. The best trick for this type is to call their church and explain that their members are harassing you and because of their continued harassment your respect for the Mormon faith is growing smaller.

And then there are the loopy Mormons who even the LDS won't touch (those who beleive in polygamy, child marriage, etc.)

As a general rule I wasn't aware that Mormons were racist, haven't they been sending missionaries abroad for decades?
