On the subject of the pledge, why didn't Newdow just lobby to remove "Under God" from it, and have it said like it was supposed ot be said, instead of lobbying to discard the whole thing?

I only took a year of Latin, so I may be wrong on this one. I think the more likely translation is "A New Order of the Ages." Keep in mind, this phrase has been translated by many retard conspiracy theorists into "New World Order." They consider this evidence that the (insert secret society) control the world through (insert means of controlling the world - slander towards Jewish bankers preferable) in order to establish a one world religion based on (insert Pagan God - Lucifer also acceptable).Frank Hipper wrote:NEW SECULAR ORDER!

Latin can be a somewhat ambiguous language (as can other Romance languages). Here are some different possibilities:Durran Korr wrote:I only took a year of Latin, so I may be wrong on this one. I think that should give an idea of how many possible translations there are, which should keep conspiracy theorists happy for a while...personally, I do think "New World Order" is the most likely, since the founding fathers weren't secularists (they were primarily deists) and they did consider themselves to be establishing a type of government which had never existed before.

Doubtful; there area few Latin words that can be literally and easily translated into "world." Mundus, for example. They would have used one of these had they meant for the phrase to mean New World Order. Seclum, the nominative singular root of seclorum, translates into "age." And even if seclum could be translated into "world" to translate it into "New World Order" it would have to be of a different declension that the plural genitive (seclorum). It would have to be "Novus ordus secli" (forgive me if my declensions are off, but I know that a plural genitive cannot possibly be translated into the singular "world"). "A New Order of the Ages" is the most likely translation.
