The tombstone urinal and fecal-collection point are my favorite ideas. You can do them any time, but it would be especially good to do it the night before the family would be likely to visit the gravesite.

Also, it should become a collection point for homosexual porno mags. Again, on the day before the family visits. Heeheehee.

Tribal witch doctor Coyote shakes magic beads and rattles, and issues a great order:

"I hereby proclaim upon Mister Phelps the sentence of death...

...by Unga-Bunga!!!"

(Motions for the 16 aroused SUMO WRESTLERS to move in and do their 'work'! The Coyote retires to a nearby lawn chair, enjoying the show and sipping mint juleps while plucking "Deliverance" theme on banjo...)

Count me in fellers! In spite of the stooping to his level and waste of time arguments, yes I would happily(gaily?)picket his funeral, piss on his grave, make it a porno-book depository, and any number of things.
The level of ire this piece of dreck inspires in me is atronomical, and I would vent it any way that I can think of.

I wouldn't want to cause the funeral, but I'd delever a different eulogy:

Phelps, a homosexual, and an atheist, was sadly torn from his gay lover last week...

That's a good question. Does Phelps have a lot of money, hence a lot of lawyers? Or is the legal case not so cut-and-dried? It's not a case of negligence, fraud, or breach of contract, like most lawsuits. It's a case of remarkably cruel use of public speech and demonstration rights; maybe it's hard to sue someone for that.
Try impossible. He can get away with faxing "reports" that a police officer is a "Child Molester". This is the guy who thinks nothing of filing hundreds of suits (at one point in time 1/5th of the cases in Kansas were nominally with his law "firm"). His MO is to sue, sue, and sue some more and then hope the other guy settles out of court ... and it works most often. If you touch him (up to and including an unwanted proffer of a handshake), you can expect YEARS of frivilious lawsuits.

Surprisingly enough "AIDS cures fags" is protected free speech, but "Shotguns cure Phelps's" are "fighting words".

When he visited my campus this joke went around:
"Let's play the glad game!" (Halley Mills from a classic peice of Disney Sappy Movie, Pollyana)

"Okay, Pollyana, want is there be glad about in Fred Phelps?"

"Ummm ..... oh I know. We should be glad that someday he will die."

Anyone who BEATS his children (like the "rev" Phelps does) deserves whatever he gets. What blows my mind is how his cult managed to get INVITED TO THE CLINTON INAUGRATION. That's right Fred Phelps Jr. was Al Gore's Northeast Kansas CAMPAIGN MANAGER. How somebody who beleives Jerry Falwell is a "fag enabling sodomite" managed to work for Gore is beyond me.

Normally I don't condone violence against the mentally disturbed, but exceptions can be made for certain people.
Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

Had I my full Black Mage powers, I would implant his consciousness into a small gemstone, and have it happen to become a gift between gay lovers. Though every now and then I'd have to say to him: What's the matter Mr. Phelps? Aren't satisfied with your eternal reward?

If Phelps sued so much, I say he should sue himself to death. Then, we should glorify his death on a site called godhatesassholes.com.

New question: As a lawyer, how much did Phelps make? What did he do with the money?

Good plan, but why not protest him with signs and the like? If you can get a big enough posse together, why not?

And by the way...

Protesting against him would be great. It would take a sizeable bunch of people unfortunately. He his been on our campus about six times that I can remember and he brought his "gang" with him. We're looking at some very strange people here. EEEEKKK! HEHE.

I really do avoid the entire situation. They don't care what they say or who they say it in front of. Talk about some really put-down language. And he calls himself a Reverend with language and attitude like that... That is what is so incredible about him and his """Gang""".

They're a classic bully gang, rallying around Phelps and his legal harassment team because they know they can pretty much litigate any opponent into the ground.

They probably have no urge to travel, because many countries outside the US have hate-speech laws, not to mention sanity in lawsuits, so that you can't litigate someone into bankruptcy and effectively use the courts as a bludgeoning instrument, the way you can in the States. Why? Because you'll end up paying the defendants' legal fees!

Useless gesture. The stupidity emanating from the site would be enough to prevent anything but weeds from growing. Besides, why salt it? That'd drive the worms away, and they need food!

Durran Korr wrote:Does Canada have a loser pays system?
Canada has four basic bulwarks against lawsuit abuse:
  1. Loser pays. In fact, the plaintiff may even be forced to provide a security deposit up-front in order to cover the defendant's legal costs if he should lose and be unable or unwilling to pay up.
  2. Much more restrictive discovery rules. In essence, you can't just demand piles of evidence from everyone remotely involved in the case; you must show relevance first.
  3. Lawsuits are normally evaluated by judges, not lay juries. This greatly reduces the effect of bias, courtroom theatrics, and monetary inflation of awarded damages.
  4. Damage caps; judges routinely limit damages. Punitive damage awards are infrequent and far smaller, with no automatic tripling as we see in certain types of American lawsuit. Most pain and suffering lawsuits cap out at $50,000 or less, with multi-million dollar awards being essentially unheard-of.
Fixing the American lawsuit lottery is not just a matter of "loser pays"; there are many other serious issues that must be examined, particularly the use of jury trials. America is by far the most litigious nation in the world, and it is a direct result of your completely fucked-up laws.
