Hmm, longetivity, perfect human genome, super athletic... I think I'd rather transfer my essence rather than my brain because my original brain would only detract from the quality of the new body. Would I forego never seeing my family again, possibly. Thats a question that depends on my mood at the time.

In a heartbeat!

I'm actualyl pretty happy with myself as I am, but it would be cool to add just a little extra agility or strength or some such. While in reasonably good shape I've always had about 2-3 extra kilograms that I can't lose no matter how much I work at it... plus a way to wire my brain for math and languages and music, on top of my art and writing.... cool!

My family? Hell, I wouldn't even want letters or e-mail. Fake my death and let them get over it, and I am 100% gone. Most of them are hosers, anyway.

(Notice the singles are the ones jumping on this; the marrieds are maintaining their positions... makes sense, although if one of you guys has a shrewish wife I can see it too...)
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

Notice that I am single, and I have doubts. Larz is in pretty much the same position. You're generalizing.

Indeed I am!

I should say "mostly the singles".

And I find your comment about generalization to be very mean...

No, no...

"generalization" is "mean" as in "average". A bad pun.

Hence the laughy-face.

But, you must understand, you *HAVE* to stay within reason. And you will always remember your past....you have your same brain, same mind, same memories. What you DON'T have is the contact.
If I'm transferring into an entirely new body, then it shouldn't be too hard to establish an entirely new identity. Sure, I will remember my past, but as long as no one else in my new life does, I can leave it safely behind me. That was what I meant.

I'm single, but past that I share little of the same situation with you. To put a cloud over my past post, the more I think about it the more tempting the removal of the family anchor would help me in life. Not to say that any of them are bad individuals, on contrary they are the normal f'ed up like the rest of society. Rather, it becomes inevitable that view of family shifts during time and refrence. The best example is Wong's comment. Where verilon is asking by the refrence point of the family that reared him, Mike views the question from the family he has now. All this would do would be to speed up the shift of refrence and view. So, I suppose I would take the 'second man' clone of myself and lead a what seems to be a normal pattern in america relationship with my family (IE talking).

Who says they won't remember or miss you? Will you still feel that way after a year or so? How can you say for sure?

Again, how do you know what your family will feel. Although mine doesn't particularly care too much, they still think to call or email every other month or so. Besides, the past can be haunting.

They obviously won't. Besides, first off, you won't ever see them. That in no way means that they can't see you. Second, they wouldn't necessarily have to see you, there are memories.
