Tipping makes perfect sense to me. I'd much rather pay less for my food and then tip based on he quality of service then have to pay more and have a waiter with no incentive to do a good job.

The situation:

Here in Sweden there is a licensing fee for owning a TV set. ~$170/y

For a couple of years now I haven’t paid the licensing fee for the TV I have.

This fee for the intended purpose of financing the governments two TV channels that is add and commercial free.

The reason that I don’t pay the TV license is because the two government channels have started putting in crap like this before any move or sports programme:
Sponsored by whatever Oil Company or business they have a contract with. And This broadcast was sponsored by whatever.

Now for the question.
Am I a cheapass that should pay for the license (this money is a no issue for me as I can easily afford it).

Or is it fair of me to say fuck the government channel you have commercials I should not have to pay for watching commercials?

Well, over in the US, waiters and waitresses get paid like 4 bucks an hour.

Not my problem. In Australia waiters get paid a decent wage and are EXPECTED to offer good service. Subisidizing their shitty wage is not my affair. Also there's the cart before the horse issue. Are wages shit because of tips, or are tips given because wages are shit.

Well in return we have goverment owned TV channels wich are not affected by commercialism or what gives the largest income, so thats in essence a channel that shows stuff that might not have been aired on a commercial channel, and there are no commercials either.

we have to pay this tv tax as well but as a college student i dont have to do so.
i dont think it´s so bad though. the government channels are the only few good channels left and they´re nearly commercial free. what they broadcast is about 90 % shit. the stuff that the non government tv stations broadcast 99.9 % crap.

Yep, it's true what they say; mondays on "ettan" sucks... "Tvåan" sucks more... But they don't have any damn commercials, and that's a good thing. And the friday movie is usually a lot better than "Fyran"'s, but the license is way to expensive. I mean, should we pay for not watching some fundie POS-show? Not in my opinion, but then again, what does the government care about my opinion anyway...

I don't mind the sports and the news, but IMO, they can throw the christian shows to hell !! Too bad the goverment says they have to have them...
