Yeah, but who caused it? The Christians. The Muslims had voluntary conversion to their faith. The Christians had the Inquisition.

Sure...those who volunteered converted. The rest were executed. Read up on Beburas. Read up on the persecution of the Sufi. The Crusaders were bad, but the Muslims weren't all sweetness and light either.

YEs, but theyr'e tolerant and intolerant at oppisite times. The majority of chirstians are tolerant right know, whereas the majority of Muslim countries are intolerant, whereas in the ancient times, the Muslims were very tolerant and the Christians were having Crusades and Inquisitions.

As a side note, I would suggest everybody moving up here to MA. We're close to the Canadian border, New Hampshire is looking for a revolution from it's own oppresive government, and we're fairly liberal anyways. That, and its a good excuse to get rid of our present governer, Mitt Romney.

True, true. It's all a matter of whether the conservatives, liberals, or moderates are in control. Right now the most visible portions of both Islam and Christianity are conservative, while the liberals and moderates are sawing on the reins.

Uh, that would be a no. Islam was tolerant during it's early years, but that went pretty quickly out the window as the religion grew in power and as the influence of the Islamic Empire (I know that's not the best way to describe it, but I lack a better term) increased.

Eh...replace conservative with extremist in my post. I was thinking of Falwell and Graham and put conservative for some reason. They are the conservatives, but to an extremist degree. I consider Mohammed to have been a moderate, since his students split (IIRC) into three different branches, two conservative (shi'ite and sunni) and one liberal (sufi).

Best way to resist a fundie takeover of the USA is to broadcast bogus news reports of the Rapture being imminent, and faking some of the prophesied signs. When all of the fundies retreat to their churches for prayer, they would be vulnerable

That reminds me of a conversation I had with a good friend during middle school, who was apparently being raised by psychotics.

Me: Man, I don't believe in any of that UFO and Area 51 stuff (this was around when ID4 came out and the whole paranormal thing was sweeping America). It's all junk.

Friend: Yeah, I don't believe there are aliens either. My mom says that when the Rapture happens, the government is going to use the UFOs it has been secretly testing to try and scare away the angels.

I've actually found most of the rank-and-file Mormons I know to be very tolerant. It's their leaders that are fundie assholes. Surprising fact of the hour: Florida has the most Mormons by number. Orlando has the second-largest Mormon temple in the world (behind SLC, Utah). About 10% of my HS band was Mormon, yet most of them were truly decent people. There were some annoying people, but at roughly the same proportion as of any other religion or philosophical belief.
