I've said it before and i'll say it again the RIAA is shitting it's shorts. All it's gonna take is a few bands to realise "hey i don't need a record company. I canrelease over the net and promote myself way better, AND i'll see all the money" remember the campain in the 70's and 80's against home taping? Well i had to be told about it. But the point is the music indutsry is as strong as ever. Sure some ppl abuse the system and stop buying music but all-in-all i've ended up buying more cds due to being able to try before i buy. the RiAA is just a bunch of facists who want COMPLETE control over what you listen to.

Politicians only give a shit about the will of the voters during election time and when it happens to coincide with their own desires. This government has been running on corruption, greed and scandal for ages, now. Consider that Strom Thurmond, the man who gave the world's longest filibuster back in the 1940's -- against the civil rights bill -- is still in office, even though he's a decrepit, useless pile of bones.NO, it will be abolished when more than 40% of the elible voters bother their ass to do so. Let the ELECTED OFFICIALS know the will of the VOTERS. There really is only so far a kickback can take a politician. We are still the ones who choose whether or not they keep their jobs.
Voters don't pay attention to what bill their congressman votes on during his term, they pay attention to what bills he promises to vote for or against during campaigning time. They also tend to focus on one specific issue. People are lazy, and they don't want to take the precious time to actually make an informed decision.
The only way to beat the media giants is to take them to court and get the DMCA thrown out as the unconstitutional garbage it is, and that is a process that will take a very long time.

No. The best way to beat them is to become an educated voter. You want the courts to decide all our laws? You will simply get the same problems.
MAKE POLITICIANS GIVE A SHIT! This attitude "voting doesn't work" you seem to have is exactly what I want to fight. Call for refurendums. Be active. Politicians only care about voters during election years because voters only care about politics during election years. Write letters.
Sure one person doesn't make a difference, unless he is part on one million.

Nice sentiment, Blanco. But voters are morons, and one educated voter in a sea of morons does NOT make a difference. You can write letters all you like, but if all of the other voters don't give a shit, you don't matter. And I reiterate: 44% of Americans think the Earth is less than 10,000 years old because the Bible says so. The average voter is a complete idiot.

44% of the people polled answered that. Besides, what if no one taught them different?
That is why the people who know have to tell the people who don't. What do you do with someone who has an idea that you think is wrong? Do you just ridicule them and leave them with their stupidity? Or do you at least offer them an alternative idea?
In this day and age I see no reason why an American should be uninformed of his/her leaders. There are plenty of media outlets and other sources to learn about what is going on. Most are no farther than the local library.
I walk around NYC and see voting registration tables at every subway station in Manhattan. In the Bronx, I can go to the local high school to do so and then vote next month. So, why can't a large number of "one person" get together and make a difference?

I don't know, what if? The point is that they're not, and they have no inclination to educate themselves.44% of the people polled answered that. Besides, what if no one taught them different?
Read Mike's Hate Mail section or the threads where we have to deal with creationists. You just can't educate them. That is why the people who know have to tell the people who don't. What do you do with someone who has an idea that you think is wrong? Do you just ridicule them and leave them with their stupidity? Or do you at least offer them an alternative idea?
That's a fine idea, but the fact remains that most people simply don't want to go as far as the local library. In this day and age I see no reason why an American should be uninformed of his/her leaders. There are plenty of media outlets and other sources to learn about what is going on. Most are no farther than the local library.
There's no reason you can't, and no one is saying you can't. But, this doesn not change the current state of affairs, that state being that the average voter is a complete idiot, and half the people are even dumber than that.I walk around NYC and see voting registration tables at every subway station in Manhattan. In the Bronx, I can go to the local high school to do so and then vote next month. So, why can't a large number of "one person" get together and make a difference?

They tried that back in the 1800's, and we wouldn't have it; so now we get to reap the consequences of having Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, et al as a part of the United States.
I guess the Civil War could be considered a loss on both sides.

Mike brings up a good point about fair usage. As long as you don't make a profit (kind of contradicts the free music idea) isn't it legal?
As for the music company's losing money:
1. Didn't Napster help music sales?
2. Doesn't most of the money come from concerts, not CD sales?
3. I rarely buy CDs (way too expensive). Downloading music doesn't change that. I haven't downloaded a song I planned to buy. It's $O profit either way.

Yep, in order to prove copyright infringement you must prove three things.Grand Admiral Thrawn wrote:Mike brings up a good point about fair usage. As long as you don't make a profit (kind of contradicts the free music idea) isn't it legal?

1.) The artist had intelletual rights over whatever was copied. This is easy to do.
2.) The person who copied the intellectual property didn't have permission to do so. Also very easy.
3.) The artist suffered a financial lose as a result of the copying. This is usually ignored when the RIAA talks about pirates.

How many votes do you think I'd get?
