It's like this Boogie comic I have (I'd put a link to a few strips but they ain't in english).

Boogie is this nasty racist, sexist, immoral hitman/collector/general-purpose-gun-totting-thug who would make the Punisher look like an angel.

Can't remember the exact dialogue, but he's with his current 'girlfriend' who is saying some nasty stuff at him about how he doesn't want anything but sex but doesn't care about her. He replies with some witty insulting stuff, and she slaps him. He slaps her back with full force and she ends on the floor. She cries.

He says "You cry like a woman what you couldn't defend like a man."

That's about the only time he hits a woman in self defense though...

The rest of the time he hits a woman just because he's annoyed.

personally, I'll hit anyone that pisses me off, be they man or woman. and I will use the same amount of force on both. If you're going to atttack someone verbally or physically you should be able to take the repracussions. Yet still I've gotten into more than one fight with other guys after I've hit a girl, all because they want to be high and mighty and say I shouldn;t done it no matter what, and this has happened even after someone tried to push me down a flight of stairs.

using the same force on girls as on guys is normally not nessessary.

As a rule, you shouldn't hit *anyone*. A lot of people tend to leave this out of the argument.

That having been said, you shouldn't let yourself get wailed on, either. I had one young lady when I was younger fly at me in a fairly drunken fit. I couldn't guess what she thought she was mad at, since I'd barely spoken to her. She got in at least two extremely painful pounds to my kidneys before I put one hand on her face and, with a push, sent her halfway across the room and into the side of a couch. She was 5'5 and about 110 pounds. I was 6'4 and twice that. She suffered a temporarily sore elbow and a very sore and bruised bottom.

She doesn't remember flying at me, but she remembers getting hurled across the room. Most people agree that I did the best thing I could under the circumstances, but there were at least two young women who scolded me for hurting her. Those two women couldn't tell me what I *should* have done, but they at least agreed that I had done the *wrong* thing. *sigh* Old tenets die hard.

You'd have to wear down my fuss before I hit a woman, and even then I wouldn't use my full power and all my skill to avoid hurting her seriously. I would do self-defense though, man or woman.

I disagree. If they kick you in the family jewels and you didn't have it coming then belt them.

Otherwise, you're better off not hitting anyone. With the way the courts are now they are biased against any kind of physical violence, even in the cases were people were asking for it an really needed it.

Personally I think some of the snottiness of American society could be lessened if there was a little more leeway in the law towards physical violence. The problem is that it is much easier to seriously hurt someone than most people think, certainly if people try the crap that is shrugged off in the movies.

I wouldn't hit a girl unless really necessary like she has a gun or a knife and I'm trying to get it away from her. If a girl went haywire on me I would mostly try to hold her off with my hands until someone pulls her off.

Like many people have said, martial arts has completely removed the feeling of girls=weaker.

Sure, a lot of them are, but I've sparred with a few who are GOOD at kick-boxing and other things and damnit - it hurts.

I'll hit a woman, I can understand why many wouldn't but the same rules for everything else applies. Don't hit first, but if you are hit...

Yes to the fact that women should get away with a damn thing, they ususally do.

But A loud NO to hitting a woman. I know that if I hit a girl in the face like I do to a guy I'd hurt them pretty bad. Normally I don't hit anyone until they hit me in the face, but if a girl hit me in the face (or nuts for that matter), I'd throw them down and restrain them. It would take A hell of a lot for me to hit a girl like I would a guy.

BTW care to explain what the issue you bud had with this broad?? Maybe there is another way to tame that bitch.

Tsyroc summed it up well: if you have a girl attack you and you hit her, who will the cops believe when they get there? Who is the jury going to believe when you're facing assault charges?

I've had this happen to me: the woman punched me in the face so hard it staggered me, then punched me again to make sure I went down to the ground. That knocked me back about 6 feet onto my ass. When I tried to get up to get away, she hit me a third time and after that I just stayed down. I couldn't chew for a few days after that. I was brought up that you never, ever put your hands on a woman: it becomes a different story when one is ready to knock your head off your shoulders. The next time she tried this, I hit her back (on the shoulder) and it never happened again. What amazed me when I think about it is that the first time it happened, I never even thought to fight back.

So, my opinion would be that you shouldn't hit a woman *first*. There's no call for it. I see nothing wrong with defending yourself if you're being assaulted, though

beyond hope: In your last statement, I believe that that applies to everyone, male or female (the attacker). You don't really need to fight back unless someone is fighting you first.

In an ideal society you'd be 100% correct, we could all sit down and solve our differences without resorting to violence. However, we don't live in an ideal society, well, most of us don't, I'm sure there are nice towns somewhere where people all get along and all.

In the real world we people who prey on others, we have muggers, pedophiles, rapists, axe killers and various other criminal scum running around. We have people who don't understand reason, or don't want to reason and only understand the use of force. This is the environment I live in, and I have absolutely no issues at all with using violence to solve problems, and there are situations where I would need to be the 1st one to use violence. I value my life, I have family and friends who care about me, and if I have to strike the 1st blow so I can come home in one piece so be it.

I live in Baltimore: the previous house I lived in was hit by gunfire and someone was shot on the street outside my apartment. I understand about violence, and I still don't think it's right to *start* it.

Generally I don't hit people in general, but one of the definate Taboo's around me is hitting me, so when a girl hits me I hit her back, not to hard unless they are really asking for trouble, but I give them a warning. Lots of time I am talking to a girl who is used to getting away with hitting guys, so when she hits me and I hit her back she is outright shocked and immediately states "You can't do that!" My immediate reply "Why of course I can, in fact I just did...You gonna try your luck again?"

I would not hurt anyone unless they're either REALLY asking for it or they attacked me first but I won't hurt girls b/c they're too skinny are fragile.

I don't think that hitting a women is wrong at all. That said, I think that violence is only necessary in vary rare cases, and in those cases geneder doesn't matter.
