Aliens...what do YOU believe?
What is your stance when it comes to these?
Are aliens real?
Are there such people as abductees?
Are there really "starborn" people living here on Earth?
Etc. etc. etc.
Please don't let this become a creation vs. evolution debate.

Anybody who believes these alien abduction stories is an idiot.

Drake's Equation drives home the idea that there has to be life somewhere/sometime(The universe is a big, old place, and even one-in-a-million chances will turn up many, many times in it's course), but no aliens have come here. Come on, you can't hide an interstellar vehicle that easily. I myself figure by the time they figure out interstellar travel and come here, all that will be left will be a few forests of steel pillars...

Bah!
It is drastically easy to create life in the form of basic replicating chemicals. It is monumentally hard to get that life to survive natural disasters, evolutionary change, etc., to become advanced forms of life.
It is, however, staggeringly difficult to get that life to the point where it can travel to star systems incredibly far away for the sole purpose of butt-fucking drunk fishermen and Iowa corn farmers.

I do believe that intelegent life exists, but they don't have the technology to travel thousands of light-years. They might not even have our level of technology.
And, if they can reach Earth, why do they only hear on them abducting cows and rednecks? Wouldn't they be more interested in the elite of our society? And, why wouldn't they be open about their presence, instead of having only laughably grainy photos of them, and tabloid reports? These would be good questions to ask to any alien-believing nut.

1. Probably. Not necessarily the sentient, interstellar travelling, anal probing kind however.Sektor31 wrote:What is your stance when it comes to these?

2. Not from the above said aliens.
3. Nope.

Re: Aliens...what do YOU believe?
Q: Are aliens real?
NO!
Q: Are there such people as abductees?
A: No, though there are people who belief they have been abducted and I suppose you could call them "abductees", however their sanity is a bit questionable. There are also people who belief that they are Napoleon...
Q: Are there really "starborn" people living here on Earth?
A: No, though there are people who belief they were created by aliens and I suppose you could call them "starborn", however their sanity is definetely questionable. There are also people that belief that the Earth is flat...
Q: Is 'lunatic' a good word to describe UFOlogist?
A: Yes.
Q: Aliens are often described as being benevolent and kind beings that only wish the best for mankind. Why are the "good" aliens kidnapping people and subjecting them to bizarre medical experiments?
A: How the fuck am I supposed to know why non-existant beings do what some claim they do.
Q: Aliens are often described as being incredibly advanced and possessing technology far beyond ours. How many cows do these incredibly advanced aliens have to disect until they have learned all that they would ever wan't to know about bovines?
A: Loads, it would seem.
Q: Why do aliens like to create large geometrical figures in various kinds of crops?
A: See here.
Q: Why do incredibly advanced aliens, capable of interstellar travel, keep falling out of the sky like fly's?
A: Maybe ET is not a very good engineer?
Q: Why are many UFO's shaped like flying saucers?
A: Better subspace geometry create's less drag at high warp speeds...no wait...
Q: Are these questions stupid?
A: Yes, beyond all belief...
NO!

I know that there are aliens out there in the galaxy, but the nearest one is at least 1000 LY away, and no, they didn't come here, except probably on a small scouting mission.

Don't make me glower at you. The chances of intelligent life coming here from a distance of a galaxy away PURELY TO SCOUT US UNDETECTED is stupid. If they came here, it would be a very deliberate one-way trip ship and we would damn well have known about it. What, they're going to travel for several generations just to get here, quietly notice that Earth actually HAS life, then turn about and go home? For what purpose? "Oh, in a couple of generations, we'll get home, then make a plan, then a few generations later we'll go back, check to see if they're still there, etc."jaeger115 wrote:I know that there are aliens out there in the galaxy, but the nearest one is at least 1000 LY away, and no, they didn't come here, except probably on a small scouting mission.
Unless you're going the way of the mainstream opinion of "All alien life clearly has FTL capabilities". Let me level with you: I HATE THIS OPINION. I do NOT understand why every time people talk about aliens, these aliens instantly have FTL capabilities!

I see no reason to say no. What level of intellegence is questionable. What is your stance when it comes to these?
Are aliens real?
I don't believe so, but the method of collecting samples from an ecosystem is not unheard of here on Earth, so in the minute possibility that it was real, the method makes some sence. Swiping a hillbilly in an isolated area would be easier than swiping someone in a large population center with out attracting too much attension. However, I still don't believe abductionee's and their stories. Are there such people as abductees?
*giggle, snort, laugh, cough.* NO.Are there really "starborn" people living here on Earth?
Etc. etc. etc.

Aliens real?
Sure why not...no reason to believe we are THAT special.
Abductees?
Sorry a hillbillie claiming being anally probed is not a piece of objective evidence.
Starborns?
Not even going to go into the sheer biological insanity that falls under.

Aliens exist, but it's doubtful if they are as superior in technology as we are, or even equal.
Most likely, there are many planets with life on them, but simply because of the distances between them, they will never make physical contact. (Now, radio contact, that MIGHT happen... but then again, who knows how long it would take for them to recieve the message, and for us to recieve the reply?)

Aliens? Hell yes! I'm reasonably sure that life used to exist on Mars, and STILL exists in Europa.

They're either mistaken, lying or just plain wrong.Sektor31 wrote:What is your stance when it comes to these?
Of course. I doubt life is a phenomenon unique to Earth. I doubt any of them have developed interstellar transports other than possibly a space ark concept.Sektor31 wrote:Are aliens real?
No. I seriously doubt they've been abducted by aliens. I ocassionally wonder if terrestrial governments might be but in general i think they're mistake or lying.Sektor31 wrote:Are there such people as abductees?

And in one fell swoop, kojikun reveals that he knows nothing about biology.kojikun wrote:yanno, if these aliens are so advanced, you'd think theyd have discovered CAT scans instead of cutting people open.
Sorry.
Really, you can learn a shitload more about something by taking it apart and messing with its component pieces than by staring at an image of it. Ask any engineer, for that matter.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.
yes but you dont need to cut open someones body to find that they have a heart and a liver. MRIs can tell you about various chemicals inside the body as well. Granted you cant learn everything about a species just by scanning them but you can find out a shitload without invasive procedure.
For that matter, they could just "abduct" a book on bovine anatomy from the local libraries. Noone would miss it, for sure. And theyve got to know english by now, they've been watching 50+ years of television, surely theyd have caught on to the whole "A B C" thing by now.

The universe is a very, very large place. The chances of life not occurring somewhere else are so small as to be laughable. Are aliens visiting us? Doubtful. That would require faster-than-light travel, and we'd observe Cherenkov radiation around our solar system.

We'd be able to detect the wormhole. A gigantic gravitational disturbance like that would be pretty obvious.kojikun wrote:unless theyve got magical wormholes or something like that. but youd really have to ask why any intelligent being would want to visit a planet where 3 billion people are christian.

Laughable? How so. Play with the numbers:Durandal wrote:The universe is a very, very large place. The chances of life not occurring somewhere else are so small as to be laughable. .
Number of stars / galaxy : 100 billion
Number of galaxies / universe : 100 billion
Chance of "life" developing around some star: 1 in 100 billion
Chance of intelligent life developing from simple life : 1 in 100 billion
Yields about 1 intelligent species per universe.

I like Bill Hicks theory. He surmised that aliens do exist but they consider us beneath them. The abductions we do hear about and the anal probes are the result of that cultures Red Necks. And that the common flying saucer is in fact an intergalatic pick up truck.
Personally i reckon aliens do exist in some form. It's the height of arrogance to think we're all alone in this universe.
