major debate in my english today, had a dozen people yelling. the basic of it was, drill sergeants use female offensive dialogue to reshape recruits into the image of a soldier. stop acting like ladies, your a bunch of pussies, whatever.

now, the debate was, these comments were offensive to women always, and it can barely believed that a government group enforces misogyny. on the other was that the words are somewhat disassociated from their source, and while pussy is meant to be demeaning, it does not mean women should be demeaned, or are in that sentence.

it was also mentioned more military troops abuse women.

i can see how some women could feel demeaned (sp?) by the drill seargents using femenine(sp?) terms as derisive (sp?) insults to troops to "whip them into shape" but can anyone honestly say that they mean it as an insult to women as for women being abused more than men
define abused if you mean they get yelled at more than men.. as IG-88E put it care to back that up?

It's been found that more military men engage in domestic violence than civilians. I don't know of an article though I'm sure reuters has something.

Most serial killers are ex-military, and there are a lot of spousal abuse problems in the military.

The problems causing this are probably complex; a man who is trained to kill is more likely to act on some bizarre compulsion than one who doesn't know how, since the road between thought and action is shorter. Also, soldiers who spend a lot of time away from their wives are inherently at risk of marital problems, hence the elevated abuse issues; contrary to popular belief, absence does NOT make the heart grow fonder. When a soldier comes home after six months in the field to discover that his wife has been cheating on him, he's liable to do something bad.

Well, you can make it harder for single soldiers to get married while in the service. Also, from what I've read, getting professional help for marital problems is often hard because it can show up on a soldier's record and can hurt his chances for advancement.

Perhaps Jegs2 would have more info/ideas seeing how he's in the Army.

Some make it work, but the cold hard fact is that military and marriage are not made for each other. It takes an extremely strong couple to survive long hours, permanent change of stations, temporary duty, deployments, etc. The military is not for the weak of heart, nor is being a military spouse.

As to the use of "pussy" or "what's the problem ladies", I've never heard those phrases used in the presence of females.

the word pussy doesnt refer to women at all, it refers to cats. specifically, "pussy cats". cats are timid little things, and thus calling someone a pussy is literally calling them a pussy cat.
