Human Stomach Volume

Post by Majin Gojira »

How much liquid can a human stomach hold at a time? does anyone know, or know where I might find the answer?

Are we talking about a typical adult male, or Homer Simpson?

Speaking from personal experience, a five-year old's stomach cannot hold more than half of a 16 inch pizza.

And it was my birthday, dammit.

Good god, man! How could you eat that much at that age? I would never be able to eat half of a 16" pizza.

My memory's kinda fuzzy, so I'm not sure exactly how much I ate, but it was definitely more than normal. ("Normal" being two slices, so I just guesstimated and doubled the amount.)

Have you tried Google? Or a dead trees library?

Tried google, couldn't find an exact maximum capacity, but I learned that it's normal volume is 100ml, but can hold 1200ml of liquid as well as several dozen ounces of food.

Well, there was this Japanese dude who ate 50 hot dogs, so I guess that what be the known maximum. His stomach expanded, obviously.

My stomach tells me to stop after a 1lb cheeseburger, large fries, and a litre of soda from Juicy Burger.

And Takeru Kobayashi, the guy who ate 50 hotdogs and buns in 12 minutes, only weighs 131 pounds.

All I can tell from my bio text books is that the typical lesser curvature on the side is around 10cm with the greater curvature capable of three-four times that.

The narrowest part of the digestive track (pyloric canal) is around 1.5cm in diameter and the widest solid bodies that can be consumer around 2cm.

Well, I'm about the same size as that japanese dude. The most I ever ate was an entire medium deepdish pizza (6 slices)... my stomach said no more after that. The motivation was an all you can eat deal at 'Mikes'.
