An interesting Adoption and Genetic research topic.
I waws thinking about abortions and adoptions and a thought came to my head. Imagine if adopted children (unwanted or not) could be genetically altered to look like the adopting parents, and even change the DNA (genetic code) to a combination of both parents (as if they had the child themselves). Perhaps even erase the existence of the kid's previous life, and implant new memories.
This is a story concept of a possible (bad) future that I thought up today.
Imagine what type of world that would be, What type of ethical problems would there be besides the obvious. Or anything else I can't think of.

It would be terrible, but not a crapload worse than what kids endure in bad parts of the world today. An adopted kid changed to think he was his adopted parents' natural kid and with a host of happy childhood memories programmed in...is he better or worse off than a kid from Somalia who was found crying by fundie missionaries next to the machete-slashed body of his mother?
I think the technology is good, not what you are proposing what we do with it. And as for what you're proposing we do with it, it's bad, just a different kind of bad.

Assuming you have the majiko tech to do this, once you are after a few cells there is no way of doing that. Also if you erase someone's memories, thats murder...

Just to put a foot on your statement: If you get whacked in the head by a baseball bat and develop long-term amnesia, did the guy who whacked you murder you?NecronLord wrote:Also if you erase someone's memories, thats murder...

Agreed, it would be terrible, and the question you brought upLagmonster wrote:THEHOOLIGANJEDI wrote:Imagine what type of world that would be, What type of ethical problems would there be besides the obvious. Or anything else I can't think of.

I agree, but I think you missread me, I don't agree with it either it barbaric and disgusting, It's a Sci Fi story concept I came up with today. I just wanted to see what moral implications this would have (beside the obvious) and where in the hell would this world would be going if that happens.I think the technology is good, not what you are proposing what we do with it. And as for what you're proposing we do with it, it's bad, just a different kind of bad.

But I would think fragment of their previous life would exist. I wouldn't think you can completely erase someone's memory, without some sort of fragments.NecronLord wrote:If the sentience that was me no longer existed then yes. Hmm, then what's to stop some group using this to make their own brainwashed in-duh-vidual army? We could have a Neo-Nazi league emerging.
