Overseas slave trade

Post by Shrykull »

I know slavery still exists in a lot of world, particularly in northern Africa, where Muslims own a lot of slaves.

Are people ever kidnapped from overseas countries and taken there to be slaves? LOL, I wonder what would happen, say if it was someone famous, like Paris Hilton or something, if it was in a country which didn't have electricity or communication media, would they ever find out where she went?

I keep saying it because its true. Slavery today is as big, if not bigger than it ever has been before due to not only the commonly thought of "slavers" etc, but also illegal immigrant labour and so forth.

This report focuses on the abduction of Eastern European women and their forced sex slavery.

The stories told in that report were goddamn horrific. And it is on the VERY mild end of the spectrum.

I was trying to find something that says whether or not people are taken from North America (Mexico probably) but the US and Canada to be sold overseas.

White Slavery vs Trafficking

The US DoJ and State Dept has sites and papers on the issue too I believe.

There have been many rumoured cases of White Slavery, but there has never been evidence found to prove White Slavery vs old fashioned abduction/murder/just done ran away from home. The main reason why White Slavery isn't a big issue in the US is "Pretty White Girl" syndrome. And the fact that if there was a big story on the matter and someone kicked up all that fuss, they'd also be forcing people to look at the fact that there are so many damn slaves in the US nowadays (again, those pesky illegals who have minimal rights and the trafficked individuals who are more representative of the classic bonded slave).

I once saw a news report about a sex slave ring that was operating out of Phoenix. They kidnapped a 17 year old girl and held her in a dog crate and was forced to have sex with a lot of different men. Thankfully, she managed to escape but I suspect most aren't that lucky.

The US is a 'net importer' nation, for such things.

I would agree. From what I've heard, most of the slaves being imported tend to come from places where they won't really notice that they're gone for a while - illegal immigrants and the like out of third world countries.

Its not so much that they won't notice, in a lot of the Eastern European cases the family starts kicking up dirt about it as soon as it notices but because the typical method for attracting the girls is offering them a well paid job so the victim is willing all up until the point she is actually introduced to her job (which turns out to be prostitution rather then household servant), it is usually much harder to track her down afterwards. Especially because they often force such unfortunate girls to write letters to her family stating she's ok, loving her job, etc. (and since the girls come from traditional poor rural families mostly, there is no surprise at no phone calls etc.), and then mailing them from the place she's supposed to be in rather where she really is. That prolongs the time in which the family doesn't realise her fate, and after they realise the trail has gone cold.

The really despicable slave trade goes on in SE Asia, where there are still cases of rural poor selling their unwanted extra daughters to the slavers.

Yep. In the US (yes I said the US) one of the most common forms of slavery is sexual slavery. People get tricked into coming to the US for work and end up trapped in a brothel. Most of the time they are forced into prostitution under a front-business such as a massage parlor (for the love of all that is good and decent, if you frequent these establishments for a massage, be vigilant) They are all trained in massage and unless the victims come forward (which they often do not because the slaving bastards have something hanging over their heads like their children, or some sort of debt) it is VERY hard to prove that there are people being held in bondage at the establishment.

Funny how the male sex drive can be such a terrible thing.
I imagine men are never captured in this way and forced into the sex trade?

All hail the gay male. We harm no one.

Men typically arent forced into slavery (not as much as women at least, because demand is not as high) but we victimize our own in other ways...

Yep. Which is another thing. The risk to an american of being kidnapped and sold into slavery are low. But risks to immigrants ESPECIALLY illegal ones are huge. Ex. smugglers dont take the poor girl to her desire destination, but rather to an illegal brothel.

Honestly the problem could be reduced if we legalized prostitution and aggressively regulated it.

They really wouldn't be prostitutes if they are forced to have sex, prostitutes get paid, is it also considered slavery if they are forced to do it, even if they get paid for it?

That is a bit nitpicky. The law views them as prostitutes because they charge for sex. Whether they see any of the money is another matter. And yes, it is still slavery. The essence of slavery is that you do not have a choice that someone else functionally owns you. Even of your slave owner gives you an allowance to go down to the corner store for little nick nacks, say as a reward for bringing in an extra kilo of cotton, you are still a slave
