No, not the two movies...
I was reading that Caesar is the only person to write of sacrifice in this manner. He also writes to never have witnessed it himself.
So, opinions on if it was ever performed historically as he wrote?

I think Tacitus also had a line or two about this form of sacrifice in one of his histories but also was not a witness.
