Death, Culture, and Conflict
If you have a spare 50 or so minutes, I really recommend you watch this video. It is kinda hard for me to summarize, so the breakdown at the link is better. But basically, it is a psychologist giving a talk that explains the creation of culture and intercultural conflicts as a mechanism that results from our awareness and fear of death. The first 25 minutes or so are him laying out the background leading to their experiments, and the rest is their findings and how it all comes together. It is really thought provoking, I had a few revelations about my own behavior from it. I know that the most of an hour is a big time investment, but it really is worth it.
