Hey my parents made me watch this video.
My parents and brother think that what the guy says in this video is insightful but I thought that the guy was spewing nonsense.
Basically he's saying that the democrats are the same ad they were in the civil war and other BS. I want you guys to tell me what you think about this and point out the flaws in this guys thinking.

Not one that I can find. I tried to find one but there are only links to his book and to his site. And my parents made me sit through the entire thing and didn't allow me to leave until it was done.

Southern democrats and southern republicans both voted in majority against the civil rights bill. There were more democrats in the south than republicans. Furthermore, southern republicans voted against the civil rights bill in larger percentage than democrats. Lastly, you can't really judge what a party is today based on what it was decades ago. Yeah, Republicans freed slaves in the 19th century, doesn't mean anything in terms of what the party is today.

Weren't the Democrats essentially split in the 1860 election, into Northern and Southern blocs? How can you say that the Democrats are the same as they were in the Civil War when the Democrats at that time lacked idealogical unity? Unless they're claiming that they're still a mess of a party, in which case I would agree, though I don't see how that relates to race relations.
