My encounter with the fundies today.(and excerpts from book)

Post by fgalkin »

Today, as I was riding the subway, I saw a stand and a bunch of fundies giving out brochures and singing gospel. Eager to get my daily dose of stupidity, I came up to them, and, after a brief talk, during which I told them I was doing a paper on religion (which is tru, btw), I got my hands on a small book entitled More Than A Carpenter by Josh McDowell. It was not one of the brochures they were giving out, but rather it was one of the books she was reading. According to the fundie that gave it to me, the book "proved that Jesus was the Lord from a scientific standpoint". Of course, after hearing "Jesus" and "science" I simply could not refuse the book. Also, on the back, it said that the book was not for individual sale, which means that was probably my only chance to get my hands on this book. The back of the book told me this:
Josh McDowell thought Christians must be "out of their minds"...He argued against fith. But eventually he saw that his arguments wouldn't stand up. Jesus christ really was God in human flesh....
Et cetera. So, when I finish reading this, I will share the stupidity of the author on this forum.

Have a very nice day.

This book definitely shows promise.

Ah yes because this thinking something is true without proof is much more intelligent than thinking something else is true without proof.

Well, I'm convinced.

Here’s the Author’s main argument that Jesus really was god:

Using the new testament, the author proved that Jesus claimed himself to be god.

Then, he assumes there are three possibilities: Jesus was a liar, Jesus was a lunatic, or Jesus was god. he then "proves" that Jesus couldn't be either a liar or a nut, therefore, he must be a god.

A more detailed explanation will follow soon. For now, read and anticipate.

Have a very nice day.

He forgot the 4th possibility: Jesus never existed.

Jesus certainly existed, but it's highly doubtful if he was the son of God...

Hehe, intelligent faith... Isn't that an oxymoron?

IIRC, it has been proven that a guy named Jesus really did exist. Now, whetner he was the son of god is a totally different question.

What if he comes back saying, "Hallalija, brothers and sisters of SD.net, have I found some amazing facts about the Lord, who is so much-maligned here... but not until I reveal the TRUTH to you..."
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
