Perfect sphere under pressure
If you took an egg that was perfectly spherical and put it under thousands or millions of atms of pressure or just simply put it in the bottom of the ocean, would it be crushed?

Yes. A spherical shape does not magically increase the yield stress of materials. Don't tell me you subscribe to that ridiculous "you can't crush an egg" myth. Just try it and you'll see it's really quite easy.Shinova wrote:If you took an egg that was perfectly spherical and put it under thousands or millions of atms of pressure or just simply put it in the bottom of the ocean, would it be crushed?

Yes, it will continue to be crushed (assuming the pressure is continuously applied evenly on a decreasing radius of the sphere, i.e. the sphere retains some integrity) to a point where it reaches equilibrium with the pressure acting on it. A better analogy would be a sperical balloon to get what I mean.Shinova wrote:If you took an egg that was perfectly spherical and put it under thousands or millions of atms of pressure or just simply put it in the bottom of the ocean, would it be crushed?

Yes, there's a point where the force being applied to the egg would exceed the maximum amount of force the material the eggshell is made from can sustain, no matter how well-constructed. At which point, the eggshell will implode.Shinova wrote:If you took an egg that was perfectly spherical and put it under thousands or millions of atms of pressure or just simply put it in the bottom of the ocean, would it be crushed?
