History repeating itself in the future

Post by UltraViolence83 »

So I got to thinking lately. You know how in video games opposing sides usually have some kind of balance factor to even out gameplay? Or you read/watch TV about ancient armies and how they all used the same basic technology but different philosophies on how to use them. For instance: The Asiatic peoples used a composite bow, while the Mongols used a "pinching" method on holding the arrow. How in feudal Japan they used sleek and fast Katanas while in feudal Europe might and brawn ruled the day.

Do you see this as happening again someday? When technological advancement finally slows down after centuries of crash-speed betterment, all that is left is how to use it effectively? I.e., "Jupiter Colony likes to use small, fast ships in large numbers as opposed to Earth Empire's bulky battleships." Both have thier merits, and are technically equal in that respect.
...This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old...ultraviolence.

Another question: Do modern militaries do this? Like is there a country A that feels that Armor is the best way to go with its strategy, while country B prefers mobile infantry?

Hmm...Stupid question. I KNOW they do that. Uh...ok. Are there any countries that have decidedly different tactics than the usual methods? And I mean countries that can hold thier own. I'm not talking about the Taliban and undermanned desprate guerrilla fighting here.
