Men die younger because testosterone does cumulative damage.
They also get more genetic diseases due to only having one X chromosone. Hence having only one copy of certain codes. Hence recessive mutations such as haemophilia show far more often in men (women need to be homozygous, men simply need to have the gene). (incidentally this is the reason there is a larger variance in male intelligence than female. There are more male geniuses. Annoyingly there are also more male morons. (ever wondered why women trolls are rarer?) That's not unjustified sexism BTW, it's statistics.)

I assume he doubts that there are a large number X-linked conditions.
It's easiest explained like this. Imagine someone had a recessive X-linked genetic disorder affecting the brain represented by a lower case X; In the case of a Woman, it would be:
Xx thus the x, being recessive is not affected.
whereas in the case of a man it is
xY. thus the x is noticeable.
A list of a few X linked genetic codes

There's already an office of men's health. It's called the fucking AMA.
The medical establishment is GROSSLY biased towards men's health issues. Insurance companies pay for treatment of male sexual dysfunction, while the most prescribed and recommended treatment for many female disorders is SURGICAL REMOVAL OF THE ENTIRE FUCKING UTERUS.
Can you imagine if you were having health problems and the doctors immediately suggested that you cut your fucking nuts and dick off? Historically, medicine has been created by men, for men, and it is only now changing, albeit slowly. Most hysterectomies have been admitted by the medical establishment to be unnecessary! Can you IMAGINE if tens of thousands of MEN every year had their nuts and dick cut off in what turned out to be UNNECESSARY surgery? There would be blood in the streets!
I'm so fucking sick and tired of men whining about our lot in life. It's ridiculous; we hold the power, the authority, the money, and the prestige. It is good to be a man in society; we are advantaged in countless ways. I can't believe there are whiner men out there who try to act as though it's somehow a tragic misfortune to be born a man in today's society.

A lot of my job as women's officer this year has been to explain to people why we don't have a men's officer.
In fact ULU (University of London Union:- UL is a collegiate university, of which UCL is a college) has just appointed a men's officer, - a position suggested by the same Imperial College jerk who wanted a Home Students officer and a Straight Students Officer.
Some unis have tried to run men's groups, but all they've been able to do is talk about testicular cancer and organise stripper nights.
OK, on to the health issue - it seems to me that the male genital system works a lot better and a lot cleaner that that second rate piece of plumbing we're carrying around - at least, the acidic mess at the end of it which just keeps getting infected. (bloody men carry around Candida, but do they ever get thrush?)
X-linked diseases are also not exclusively male, just ar far more common in males (on account of a woman having to have a father who suffers).
Men die earlier, because that's the way they were designed. In a HG society, an old man, is quite frankly useless, while the menopause secures better health for old women, who help raise children.

Based on the difference in male/female gender roles in HG societies.BoredShirtless wrote:You're assuming old men can't help raise children too? Besides, I'm not the one who decided to give women the menopause but to let men fizzle out.

Please define this "difference". Or if this theory isn't your own, please cite a source.innerbrat wrote:Based on the difference in male/female gender roles in HG societies.BoredShirtless wrote:You're assuming old men can't help raise children too? From what I've seen on DISC programs about aging, a menopausal woman in hunter/gatherer or early agricultural societies is a nessecary caregiver. Older women are able to stay behind and care for the children while the men go hunt and the younger healthier women gather food. This frees up human resources to help the tribe as a whole.innerbrat wrote:Based on the difference in male/female gender roles in HG societies.BoredShirtless wrote:You're assuming old men can't help raise children too? Men exist to impregnate the female with their half of their DNA thus giving rise to genetic diversity and keeping everyone from becoming slack jawed, inbred hicks.
Once a male has done this there is usually little need for him after that, though fathering in many species is done by the male and female, a lot of species have the male simply die off or go and get laid with another girl before he dies.

Most women with the genes are carriers. You'd have to have a carrier mother and a carrier father. I did say that...innerbrat wrote: X-linked diseases are also not exclusively male, just ar far more common in males (on account of a woman having to have a father who suffers).

And I didn't notice. Sorry.*loads the shotgun*Men die earlier, because that's the way they were designed.
Seriously - the menopause lengthens women's lives. Men don't have a menopause (no they don't!), and just fizzle out.

I'm appalled. Did anyone even read the article? If any of you have, why are you brushing off these issues like they are of no concern? Why is it you can't watch television for even half an hour without tripping over a comercial or public service announcement regarding female health issues, but the only places I've seen any effort made to educate men on their specific health issues was highschool health class and boot camp? The health class is really stretching it, too.
Oh, Necron, I waas referring to the statistical spread of intelligence in male and female groups. I understand the genetic aspect you've stated, and I agree. So, what's being done about it? Anything?
Oh, and Innerbrat? Men most certainly DO go through menopause, or more apropriately andropause. And in case you don't bother reading, the symtoms are pretty much the same.

From what I've heard thats because women tend to try and O-D on sleeping pills or some other drug while men tend to off themselves with a bullet through the head. That's because when women attempt suicide, it's often a cry for help or attention. When men attempt suicide, they often succeed because they actually want to die.Darth Servo wrote:From what I've heard thats because women tend to try and O-D on sleeping pills or some other drug while men tend to off themselves with a bullet through the head. edit:
Darksider, the punchline of the joke is that he has had several girlfriends. It's just that all the american girls turned out to be insane. So, he moved to Japan and so far, everything's cool.
