Which...(A religion question)

Post by Mr Bean »

Consider for a moment the top six Five Religions in the Land, Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Buddism, Judisim

If you for some... Subspace reason (:P ) had to pick one of those five religions to follow which one would you?

IE say umm SHEP!, Yes Say Shepperd Suddenly devopled superpowers took over the world and order everyone to have a religion and they had to follow it to the letter

Which would you pick?

And more importantly

Why?

The older Christianity. When it first started and before it became institutionalised...

I'd go with Buddism. This way you don't have to kill anyone who supports another religion.

I'd probably choose a gun to the head, but for the sake of argument, I'll go with Buddhism.

At least they can eat meat.
I mean, think about it: Hinduism, NO BEEF. Islam, Judaism, NO PORK. And if we have to follow the religion "to the letter" because of Shep's awesome superpowers, even Christians can't eat PORK. Or SHELLFISH. Or DATES. Ok, well dates aren't meat, but they taste good.

Fuck all that shit. I'm going to be a Buddhist, and I'm going to laugh my ass off at all you porkless, beefless freaks.

Buddism. They don't force their beliefs on others and don't care about god.

I have to say Buddhism too. Mostly because you could say it´s not even a religion. More of a philosophy.

I like the fact that Islam supports almsgiving but I have no desire to travel to mecca and worship a giant stone. Hindus don't eat beef and I really have a beef with that particular belief! Jews have some cool holidays and I enjoy kosher foods. However, I really don't want to have my johnson to go under the knife! This leaves me with Buddhism and Christianity.

Your jonny goes under a knife as a christian too NK

And *Strict interptation is hard with Buddism and Hindism(Easy with the rest, IE you have to be a Fundie, The Koran, Tora, Bible is literly true follow all of its laws or god will send waves of telemarketers to talk your ears off and then thrust you into the fires of hell while listening forever to Ricard Simmons)

By too the letter I mean Fundiementalism for the Books three, And according to the laws of the two great Hindiu epec storys, Annd for Buddism? Just what the man said, do what he says do, and umm do it

Taoism. Some variants believe that one of the most important natural flows of energy in the universe is the sexual energy, so you can worship sex!

I'm not so sure about Buddhists being able to eat meat. They are pretty strict about not killing sentient life. The Buddhist monks that I've met seem pretty trim and fit. Whether that's due to their mostly vegetable diet or other things I'm not sure. Regular buddhists (not monks) seem to have no problem going to MacDonalds. It seems that the Buddhist diet is determined by how closely one follows its own precepts.

Here's an interesting link that I found for a point of departure:

For me, the problem with the religions listed there is that none of them revolve around me being the supreme deity and overlord of the universe.. so I'd have a problem choosing.
However, if blowing my brains out weren't an option.. Buddhism, it's the least threatening.

Buddhism. Though I am an admitted atheist I still utilise Buddhist meditation practices. That and the fact that the buddhists are the most reasonable and coherent of any religious group I've encountered.

I said Christianity (early-when it first started) as there wernt all those do's and donts BS to deal with.

AFAIK, when it was institutionalised is when it really started going down hill (read made into a state religion)

Well yeah, I know Buddhists are fucking stupid too (in real life I chose none of the above), but out of the options given, it's the most likely to allow a meat diet, I suppose.
All the Buddhists I know eat meat. Except one, but that's because she's seeing how long she can go as a vegetarian. I told her a better test of willpower is to start smoking and then quit.

I think it mainly has to do with what sect or denomination or whatever you follow.

I'd go with Buddhism, becuase its the least threatening, and its the most... different.

On diet: I believe its the Jainists that are strictly vegitarian... but I susppose that everyone would be vegetarian if all were buhhudist.
