Another Christian slogan

Post by Joe »

This one kind of freaked me out. Saw it on a Church billboard.

It was something alone the lines of "Don't let six strong men be the ones to make you go to Church."

This is either some Christian in-joke or that I'm in the dark about or the scariest fucking thing I've ever read.

I think it refers to pallbearers, suggesting that you should go to church before you die (and of course, assuming that your funeral will be religious).

Oh. I thought for a moment that 'Church' was the nickname for a proctological reconstruction center...

That reminds me of the story of a preReformation bishop who only once entered his own cathedral, for his funeral. Quite telling of the church's power at that time.

I saw one slogan that said He who dies with the most toys wins....nothing
and it listed a verse that I guess said something to that effect.
I guess we should all just stop working to have nice things huh? But
wait, it also says if you don't work then you can't eat....I guess we
just toss a coin to see what verse we will follow..

Remarkably, the slogans outside, here in WV, yesterday were non-offensive. Most simply urged the reader to thank/support the soldiers(Nothing said of the government.. Just support the troops. This is WV after all...), though there were two that stuck in my mind.

Depend on the Lord.

Here's a particularly horrible slogan I saw:

"The devil wants to control you. God wants to lead you."

What bullshit. "Oh no, God doesn't want to control anyone." And there's a flying cow outside my window.

For a second, I was thinking that the church in question hunted down it's followers and dragged them to church if they didn't show up.

I've never liked "cutsey" phrases on the signs of churches. I once complained to the paster of the church in which I was a member about the church's sign. I told him that we would be better served placing a Biblical verse up there rather than quips of "human wisdom."
