The sign of the endtimes will be a series of 500kt fireballs exploding over the targets within ten miles of me. Of course, I won't actually SEE them because I'll be flash blinded and, also, dead, but that's not the point.

Not to mention screaming in agony, raving with all the ho's, drug dealers, non-Christian philosophers, and other such people in Hell...RedImperator wrote:The sign of the endtimes will be a series of 500kt fireballs exploding over the targets within ten miles of me. Hold on, if Hell is full of hookers and smart philosophers, then wouldn't it be an enlightened and enjoyable place? Or are all the hookers ugly or something?Vorlon1701 wrote:Not to mention screaming in agony, raving with all the ho's, drug dealers, non-Christian philosophers, and other such people in Hell...RedImperator wrote:The sign of the endtimes will be a series of 500kt fireballs exploding over the targets within ten miles of me. Nope! Every hooker's down there. Plus, I don't think you're gonna be in much pain while you're doped up on enough sex, drugs, and alcohol to overdose you 10 times (If you were alive, that is...)Asst. Asst. Lt. Cmdr. Smi wrote:

Doomsday aside, there is NO FUCKING WAY i'm going to put one of those things inside my body.
I just don't trust this kind of technology at all to see it as anything other than a danger.
And having your ID inside your body? That is begging the government to track you.
Though to be fair, by now we could have had some kind of ID card scanner at every store and the such.

I agree with you. It is begging for the government to track you. And those records get released. Hence, why I don't want them to be active chips. Let them be passive transponders that'll only activate on medical scanners...UltraViolence83 wrote:Doomsday aside, there is NO FUCKING WAY i'm going to put one of those things inside my body.

Probably the best application for the technology. Hopefully the only application of it.Vorlon1701 wrote:I agree with you. It is begging for the government to track you. Besides, who are they to force you to wear them? I kinda think that all the anti-fed and end-time nuts out there would become so batshit insane that the gov't can't implement them without becoming outright totalitarian. But the biggest concern is that people may lose the social stigma of shoving electronics into your body and consider it "normal." That is what needs to be fought against.
Like I said in a similiar thread, I refuse to become a hermit not fit for employment or society at large because I don't like the idea of violating my own body to conform, let alone rape my privacy and liberty.

While the idea of attaching a social stigma to these chips is a good one at first glance, when you start getting people who "need" this sort of implant, such as diabetics, epileptics, and the such, you might get people who consider this such an abomination that they would never put this thing in their skin. While they normally would live without these implants, there can and will be times where this implant would provide necessary information that wouldn't be found on an ID card, or on a medical bracelet that could be sawed off, forgotten, or stolen.UltraViolence83 wrote:

On the subject of having electronics put in your body just because, yes, there does need to have a stigma put on these, simple because they're elective surgery. Just like people are stigmatized by getting regular implants, cosmetic surgery, and the like, these people should get the same treatment. You chose the surgery, you choose to get annoyed.

I don't know. How can you do drugs, chill with philosophers, and have sex with hookers if you're dead?Vorlon1701 wrote:How can you burn if you're dead?RedImperator wrote:

I agree with you, Vorlon. Except who would saw off or steal a medical bracelet? If you are a medical case and you need to have ID on you or you'll die, then you should have it. Perhaps after this people will associate chips with afflictions. After all, I'm sure people are lazy enough to want to travel short distances in electric wheelchairs...
I should also note that I dislike most "unnecessary" electronics, most visual example being cell phones. In fact, both of these share something: useless social status markers, but come in handy in emergencies.
Reminds me of SWEGTC New Edition: Where it said Col. Veers confined himself to a repulsor chair because he didn't want robotic legs due to the social stigma of being a cyborg.
PS: Almost all my information on SW EU is from the Guides. I don't read the books or comics.

Seeing as I don't really see many medical bracelets out there, I see them being sawed off as part of kidnappings or the like. If a guy has an allergic reaction to a drug while high with his friends, and they drop him off at the hospital without any sort of ID (and run away), then this might help save him. If someone gets into a car crash and a limb gets mangled, or the bracelet destroyed, this might help them. Just the random, out of the way cases that you think would never happen to you but are just common enough to be of concern.UltraViolence83 wrote:I agree with you, Vorlon. Like I said, I don't have much against people with medical complications using them, in which case they could definitely save lives.Vorlon1701 wrote:Seeing as I don't really see many medical bracelets out there, I see them being sawed off as part of kidnappings or the like. Why do you care if the government knows where you are? What do you have to hide?UltraViolence83 wrote:And having your ID inside your body? That is begging the government to track you.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Sweet hell, are you seriously asking me what is so bad about the gov't knowing where you are and what you're doing all day? You're quite naive if you are.
I have things to hide, as well as most people do to some extent. The idea of any application of Big Brother is utterly disgusting to any lover of the ideals of democracy and liberty. I guess you don't like freedom and privacy, eh?
PS: If you asked me that in a genuine question wondering why I myself don't like the idea, to add to a list of others' reasons, please disregard my remarks. However, if that was asked in the sense that you wonder what is so bad about the general idea of gov't (or anyone else, for that matter) tracking then I'd like you to lick my hairy white ass, good sir.
