Planetary Rotation
Ok, some creationist troll is saying that planetary rotation falsifies the big bang. Now i've never heard this one before, so what's it about, and why do we actually get planets rotating in different directions?

Re: Planetary Rotation
Can you cite their rationale? It's hard to argue against it without knowing what they're claiming. It's most likely pseudoscience, at best.Rye wrote:Ok, some creationist troll is saying that planetary rotation falsifies the big bang. Considering the red shift and other observations have shown the Big Bang to have been undoubtable fact, the person likely hasn't a clue to what he is saying.

Since the person hasn't said why planets not all spinning in the same direction is evidence for the Big Bang not happening, and is an obvious troll, I find it not too important.

Re: Planetary Rotation
It's clearly bullshit, he says it's angular momentum from the big bang would cause all the planets to spin the same way.(therefore creation is true)Baron Scarpia wrote:Can you cite their rationale? Now i have no idea what he's going on about, but would like to know why some planets spin in different directions.

Ah, so that's the reasoning. Angular momentum. I'd seen that argument once before but didn't know what they meant.

I find it amusing that fundies, though they keep citing the same Bible, contradict between themselves when it comes to debating science.
We get fundies who deny the Big Bang, and then we get those who say Big Bang + imaginary time = First Cause justified. We get fundies who say Genesis 5 couldn't be used to calculate history, thus they don't agree with the 6000 year argument, yet we have the ICR, CRS, Answers in Genesis talking about Young Earth all the time. These guys should make up their mind.

That guy (Bettawrekonize) needs to have his head bashed in with a baseball bat, and his genetallia removed to stop him from ever re-producing. I can't believe how patient firehawk was with that turd.Baron Scarpia wrote:Ah.

Given the nature of the message board, I assume he has to be polite or will get banned.Crown wrote:That guy (Bettawrekonize) needs to have his head bashed in with a baseball bat, and his genetallia removed to stop him from ever re-producing. Read Robert Pennock's Tower of Babel. Pennock breaks down all the varying brands of Creationism, from YECs to OECs to IDs, etc. He shows that while they put on a unified front when it comes to attacking evolution, they fight bitterly amongst themselves over the particulars of creation. What's amazing is that all of these professed Christians attack fellow Christians with differing views with an unbelievable amount of bile. They then have the nerve to try to point to disagreement among scientists as some sort of proof that evolution is false. I'd challenge them to find any scientific papers in which the kind of negative attacks Creationists use are put forth. People like Phillip Johnson aren't just Creationists, they are bad people who use mean-spiritedness and outright deception to advance their views.Grand Moff Yenchin wrote:I find it amusing that fundies, though they keep citing the same Bible, contradict between themselves when it comes to debating science.

Of course, Johnson is smart in that he avoids making theoretical claims about Creation, unlike the YECs. He's a lawyer, after all, and builds his case in a lawyerly fashion, like Cochran defending O.J. It doesn't matter to him that scientific standards of evidence aren't remotely comparable to legal ones. It's when Creationists make pseudoscience claims like the above that they are hoisted on their own petard. They invariably end up looking like morons who have a shallow understanding of all things scientific. It helps demolish their credibility even more.

I've met a guy who used Johnson's stuff in a debate, it was torn to shreds in about three posts, and turned into a joke "Since the creationists can't win, they hire a lawyer to sue evolution."
