I was looking at the "Try and top this guy...." theard just now and it prompted me to try and find the most accurate deffinition of Pi.

My question is: What motivated them to do that? How did they get "pi=5/4 to 4"? Are kids nowadays getting so dumb that they can't even round pi to two digits anymore?

The greeks thought that PI was some simple fraction, because they used fractions, not decimal points. So of course, as time progressed, a more accurate value for PI was obtained.

Uhh, isn't 3.14 rounded to the nearest tenth 3.1? So why is this 3.2?

I suppose it matches the ancient Greek estimation, which is expressed in fractional, not decimal.

3.1 = 31/10
3.2 = 16/5

Greeks thought that PI was "more or less" 16/5
I think.

Small note: Until the invention of Arabic Numerals and the decimal point, there was no way of expressing pi other than in fractions.
