OK, if you could get a stick that went from hand height to the moon, and it was firmly wedged in the moon, what could you do with it, and what sort of problems could it conceivably cause?

Well, unless you can run REALLY fast, that stick will be out of your hands pretty damn fast...

Would it be easier to stick the pole on Earth ground and then try and get it attatched to the moon? I guess the real question is: What would happen if you tethered the moon to the Earth?

Unless the stick is infinitely elastic and completely unbreakable, it will be destroyed by the resistance posed by the Moon's revolving.

Exactly the problem. The Earth and the Moon revolve AND orbit, and not at matching speeds.
