First Contact Scenario

Setting: Near future

Scenario: An alien signal is discovered. After months of work, it is
discovered to have audio and video from their civilisation, as well as
encoded data. It's also discovered to have images giving precise dates,
times, and locations of a mission to come to Earth. Their arrival is
scheduled for ten years from signal reception. The landing site is 1st and
46th in Manhattan -- UN Head Quarters.

What does the world do? How do people respond before to the signal, and
then to first contact with aliens?

The US government hide the information about an alien signal,and prepare a plan to evacuate NYC,just like what happens in Close encounter of the third kind.

Everybody prepares for a friendly first contact, but the US keeps a target lock on the assigned spot with nukes just in case

You'd have a mass exodus from New York over a few years time, with a mass exodus of sci-fi geeks into the city.

The aliens will land, see what they think the people of the world are like and either run screaming for there minds, or begin a BDZ

And all the while, DarkStar will be screaming for Captain Janeway to save him
