Southern Baptists

Post by Peregrin Toker »

I often hear about Southern Baptists. I've even encountered a man who claimed: "I'm not a baptist, I'm a Southern baptist."

So I ask: What's the ideological difference between Southern Baptists and "regular" Baptists???

I think Southern Baptists are more misogynist. They also got a meaner fundamentalist streak. I'll dig something up if I can find it.

Southern Baptists are extra inbreed.

I think any difference are minmal and wouldn't be important to anyone outside of the Baptist community.

There's no real difference. I used to be a Southern Baptist, and I saw no difference between regular and Southern.

I lived between the two types for three years, next to a southern for two, and a regular for one

Southern Batists are the fokes who stand up and yell AMEN! Whenever Falwell gives a speech, Falwel is basicly the head of Southern Baptists

That gives you a pretty damn good idea right there of the diffrences between the two

Southern Baptists are the worst of a very bad breed, if you ask me.

When in doubt, use the 'Lagmonster Flying Boot' or LFB scale to tell:

Level 1 Stupidity: Involuntary twitch in the knee, no kicking.
Level 2 Stupidity: Spasmic swinging of the leg, some hand jerking.
Level 3 Stupidity: Gritting teeth, light kicking of inanimate objects.
Level 4 Stupidity: Involuntary kick to perpetrator's shin, no followup.
Level 5 Stupidity: Involuntary kick to shin followed by voluntary kick to knee.
Level 6 Stupidity: Voluntary elbow to the head followed by voluntary kick to torso.
Level 7 Stupidity: Repeated voluntary kicks to head and torso.
Level 8 Stupidity: Leaving to get steel boots, returning with voluntary kicks to entire body.
Level 9 Stupidity: Willful destruction of internal organs.
Level 10 Supidity: Death of perpetrator near-instantaneous from various attacks.

Southern Baptists are at around Level 4 or so, which is actually pretty high for a civilized and restrained person to reach with another human being.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

Southern Baptists are bigoted, asinine, stupid, donkey-fucking, racist, sexist, inbred, irrational, obtuse, arrogant, ignorant, intolerant fundie morons. In other words, men of God.

Regular baptists are usually just irrational quasi-fundies (they take the Bible literally, and they put their hands over their ears when you remind them of the evil parts).

I'm sure any real difference between them is over some minor point of doctrine.

That's how it seems to be with most Protestant denominations.

Or at least the ones I'm very familiar with.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if the regular Baptists cheer him on as well.

And probably anyone else in the Religious Right.

In some cases there are differences between Southern Baptists and Baptists, but I may be thinking of American Baptists (I believe they are the non-funide group)

AFIAK the split between the Southern and orginary Baptists dates back to the American civil war. The key doctrinal difference between the two sects is that the Southerners supported slavery and the ordinary Baptists didn't.

Oh.

Thanks for the info.

But it was like I thought. Doctrine.

That difference doesn't seem as extreme as the Charismatics and Baptists though.

Gah!! Should have thought of that!!

However, wouldn't that ideological schism have vanished after the Reconstruction??

Except a hell of a lot of Southerners have yet admitted that the Civil War is over and they lost. The rednecks can hold a grudge for a long time and none more so than fundy rrednecks.

What's even more amazing is that people like Ashcroft and the Secretary of Interior(last name is Gale, I believe) gave interviews for southern magazines. And they said bullshit like "the South lost too much in the Civil War". And these are the people Bush picked for his government?! Fuck, they need to get it over with.

Gale Norton is the Secretary of the Interior. And it is a Southern magazine, after all. Are all Southern newspapers like that?

Yeah, it was Gale Norton. It just slipped my mind at the moment. What I found incredulous was that the South still parade around their "pride". It's pretty obvious that their pride is not based on rebellion, but rather, racism and slavery. The fact that there are newspapers and magazines like those really shows how rampant racism is in the South.
