The march on Washington...
--This thread is to discuss the Nov. 2 atheist march on Washingtong D.C. Who will be going, is it a good idea, what are the possible gains and pit falls, etc.

--I think they are legitimate goals, however, I also think the major benefit will be to organize atheists. The major stubbling block to equality for athiests is a lack of organization.

Bush is MOST definetly a fundie, scares the hell out of me when I think about christians who feel they`re living out the end time and have a nice, big, shiny red button! And as regards the march, I understand Mrs. Betty Bowers, America`s finest christian, will be speaking. Wish I could be there.

It depends on what your meaning of "fundie" is (/Clinton). IF Bush is a fundie, he's nowhere near as bad as bigots like Fawlell. I don't think this march will do much. If Atheists want ot make prgress, they should do something that makes Americans think positively of them.

Bush is most definitely NOT a fundie. He's a moderate Christian by American standards.Frank Hipper wrote:Bush is MOST definetly a fundie, scares the hell out of me when I think about christians who feel they`re living out the end time and have a nice, big, shiny red button! Yes, though we don't kill each other over it as much Europe. His Divine Shadow wrote:By european standards he's a fundie one could say, or he gives that impression, america is much much more religious than europe.

I don't give a shit.
Of coures, I hope it doesn't go too far. I remember when one guy around he was circulating a petition that demanded the US Army stop hiring chaplains for their Christian members.

--One of the major problems in the U.S. is that most people just write off legitimate atheist complaints because there is no discussion on the subject in the public arena. Instead we just have the religious right spitting lies left and right unchallenged. Things like this march will at least put the atheist arguements on the map (assumming it is done correctly). The risk is that religion and anti atheist sentiment is too deep and most will not look at the arguement in an objective and logical fashion. This could lead to a backlash against atheists. Nevertheless, I have seen no real arguements on this thread yet. I only see unfounded statements.

Um, why would I give a shit about an atheist march? I'm not atheist.

Well good for you then. But I don't think he was actually talking to you specifically.Um, why would I give a shit about an atheist march? I'm not atheist.
I personally think this march is needed. Even though it may not officially accomplish much, it will at least make the general public and government aware that thier IS in fact a challenge to the common religious infections which have been slowly spreading for the past few decades and especially since 9/11
