Fundies
Damn debating with fundies is impossible without saying god doesn't exist, which in my case isn't really acceptable (I'm a catholic or quasi-agnostic depending on my state of mind (been reading too much of Durandal's logic )). Stupid people who take the bible literally. Especially those bible church members and baptists. Ok they are not stupid, just too indoctrinated. Their best argument is "the bible says so"

And Pu-239, just admit it. Belief in God is an irrational belief. As long as you're a decent person being religious isn't a bad thing.

Actually its very EASY to debate against a Fundie. You can leave the whole thing about god existing or not out of the debate. All you need is science to prove the claims of the bible wrong. Its really simple you know. The hard part is actually getting them to listen.

It would be easy to debate a Fundie, but they're too ignorant. It's like throwing wiffle balls at a brick wall. However, some may hange, even if it isn't a good one. They'll probably go days without sleep, cry to themselves, and become recluses. Because you see, to a fundie, ignorance is bliss.

I've got a Fundie friend who's very good (or at least as good as a 16 year old can be) at science and math. He can apply his knowledge very well in most practical matters.
The problems start to crop up with dealing with religion though. He just can't seem to seperate himself from his religion... I don't believe Fundies (or at least some of them anyway; Anti-Porn Guy is a nice exception) are all stupid; it's just they are too indoctornated into their religion to logically question it.

Gotta love it when Fundies use the Bible as "proof." He's still basing his arguments on the assumption that the Bible is true......If what the Bible says is true regarding the spiritual warfare that is going on with Satan and his servants, the fact that there are other religions should certainly be no surprise, nor should it be a surprise that the Bible is attacked by non-believers far more than any other religious book. Jesus emphatically warned his followers of the many counterfeits and false prophets that would come and try to lead men astray (Matthew 24:11, Mark 13:22, etc.). The other religions of the world have been an effective tool of Satan in his quest to blind us of our need for a Savior.

Just like the Bible says pi=3. But wait geometry says pi= 3.1415... That means that math is a tool of Satan.
In my opinion the existence of a deity is not known one way or the other. Unless it comes down and kicks some ass. This does mean that you can't disprove the existence of a deity, you can disprove the existence of certain deities. The literal Biblical God does not exist, see my thing on pi about taking the Bible as literal proof and the fact that the ark and flood couldn't have happened the way that it claims as well as Darth Wong's site, etc.

My fundie friend refutes the pi=3 thing by saying there was a lip on the bowl. Since this makes the edge extend out, increasing diameter and the liquid is not right to the top, so the ratio of circumference:diameter is not ~3.14. He also claimed that archaelogists have found this bowl and there was a lip.
However, he did not provide any sources or point me to any articles.

How would that work? The Bible says "10 cubits from rim to rim," and "30 cubits to measure around it." No literal mention of a lip. If it ain't in the Bible then it ain't true, right? That means no lip and pi=3. If you're a complete moron.Ignorant_Boy wrote:My fundie friend refutes the pi=3 thing by saying there was a lip on the bowl. Ask for sources and pictures. If he can't provide either then he can't use that as evidence. If there is a rim does it measure so that pi=3.1415...
