Would you eat soceity's "forbidden fruit"?
I just saw Hannibal and I was wondering if people would actually eat human flesh if they had the chance....... you know just for fun. Also, I wanted to discuss why people think that this is morally wrong. Personally, I dont have a problem with this as long as it dosent involve murder or violation of a persons will. I'm sure that this thread brings a whole meaning to organ donation though.

They have since switched to SPAM, as the village elders said it tasted the most like human flesh.

Probably if I was starving. Not before.

If you want to eat human flesh, that's your problem. As long as you don't injure anyone for flesh, it's all good. That said, I would not like to eat human flesh.

Only if starving and there was no other option, but wouldn't kill anyone in order to do it, though. Circumstances such as those depicted in the movie Alive would qualify. In case you haven't seen it, it involved a bunch of Argentinian rugby players and some other people who were going to Chile crashlanding in the Andes and being stranded for something like two months in there before they were rescued. They had to eat their dead to stay alive. It happened sometime in the early 70s.
As for cannibalism as a practice, it was quite commonplace among certain cultures in the Pacific and some cultures in Africa and presumably also in South America. I don't have any hard data on that, I'm going by the bits gleaned by casual reading that I can dredge up from memory. The one thing I do know is that some of the Maoris practiced cannibalism.

In my mind the only real moral objection to eating humans is that it is mostly going to mean that someone is going to be hurt by it, specifically the person being eaten. If that is not the case, I really see no reason why it's bad, aside from gastronomical and possible health problems.

Remember the movie Alive? If you were in a situation like that, and you waited until the person in question who was up for consumption had died, then.. Then it's an acceptable necessity of survival. Anything else is an obscenity.BlkbrryTheGreat wrote:I just saw Hannibal and I was wondering if people would actually eat human flesh if they had the chance....... you know just for fun.
