Pot is legalized today, but with taxes it sells for 50% more than street value. What do you do?

I'll buy it legally over the counter.

I think that this thread implicitly advocates the pruchase of illegal drugs, and thus should be locked.

Actually what this thread does is explore the possibilities of a proposed legalisation system.

Its not like either Chuck or I are going "Smoke Crack for Satan!"

Okay, but it could be phrased in such a way that it doesn't imply that we are already pot addicts.

Considering how weed is 50% lower today then it was 18 years ago, thanks to highly effective giga-buck drug wars, I think buying it legally works just fine.

Isn't that what the third voting option addresses, given the other two options, that you would not purchase pot, period?

It pot is legalized the price would plummet unless only the govt could grow it.

Once the growing moves from clandestine operations to large economies of scale it would be pretty cheap.

However, if it was more expensive due to the taxes then it is now, nothing would change. It would be grown illegally.

Well, if I was a pothead, I would go for the legal stuff, to stay out of trouble. However, I don't (And probably won't) smoke pot, so leagalizing it would not make any difference to me.

I'd buy some government weed, then start growing my own.

I think that the second option is flawed, since it more likely that legally sold pot would be cheaper than the illegal one.

Have a very nice day.

If it happened I would propose G.A.P.

Genetically altered pot. It has a brand name and they could sell it at the Gap. It would pretty much sell itself.

Not always. The tax here in Ireland meens that smuggled cigarettes are cheaper then by legal cigarettes by about €3. That could be the same for legal pot

I wouldn't buy. Quitting. Not necessarily for good, but quitting. One person in the world could make me quit for good. But I still won't buy my own.

You kids and your harmless drugs. When I was your age, kids had to walk a hundred miles uphill in the snow to get light headed and an intoxicated feeling! And that was because the only way we knew how to do it was to climb to the top of a snow-covered mountain and get oxygen-deprived. We were much stupider back then.

You bet. After all the oxygen-depravation, we walked on our hands.

Although in all honesty, the closest I can remember was a guy who lived down the block from me who gave out mini-liquors to kids at Halloween.

I've never smoked it in my life and have no interest to in the future (legal or otherwise), so this is not intended to advocate drug use. Personally, I'm happy so many chose the third option, but I wanted to see what people would do. After all, legal cigarettes are more expensive than illegal ones; I'm just wondering if advocates who say "legalize it" (or "legalise it" in other countries) would still go with what they're using now even if they could buy it legally.

Remember kids: don't take drugs. This is a serious endorsement made by a guy on the Internet you've never met before and know little about.

If you want to fry your brain on drugs, I want the government to make money off of it instead of wasting money on trying to stop you. That pretty much covers all drugs, not just the mild ones like Marijuana.

I'd buy it on an Indian reservation, tax free.

Seriously, failing that, I'd buy it legally. I'd know legal pot met some basic minimum quality standards and would be clean (i.e., not laced with anything to give it more kick because it's shitty pot), and I wouldn't have to deal with any shady characters to get it. It's like the difference between legal booze and moonshine. The second might be cheaper, but I know the first one won't make me go blind.

I am for legalization and Taxation of M.J.

I don't smoke it at all (Not that I don't have acess to plenty),

Although I figure as soon as the Baby Boomers take over the AARP, it will not only be legal but it will be covered by Medicare. (Hippies in their 60's getting chronic on the Government's tab)
