symbiotic species vs. domestication.

Post by The Yosemite Bear »

watching a biologist talking about the "evolution" of dogs and cats. So have we altered the animals for our own ends, or did they evolve as part of their oportunism. So are our relationships with the animals that live with us, more a case of symbiosis or domestic culture?

For dogs it's pretty definate that it's domestication since we chose their progression to suit our needs. I think cats, however, can be argued is a case of symbiosis.

Dogs have been domesticated for a lot longer than cats. It's not surprising that they retain more "wild" traits than dogs.

the doctor was arguing that in terms of natural selection, dogs being opertunistic omnivores was the food from the wasteful primates, the intial dogs/wolves to supress their natural fear of being too close to those dangerous primates...
