So Spirit was sent 30 years ago?

Cool though, sorta like those Shoemaker asteroids that blasted Jupiter.

I still get the chills from seeing the final few pictures taken by the Russian Phobos 2 probe, near the Martian moon. *brrr*

I think they were saying it might've been an old piece of space junk.

And damn, those are the little rovers that could, aren't they? They've been rolling for over a year and still going strong.

I did a quick search, but couldn't find any of the original Phobos 2 photos. Have any links handy?

I thought "boy does this sound familiar. I've heard about it before." Then I checked the date on the BBC story and found this:

Last Updated: Thursday, 18 March, 2004, 14:59 GMT
Still pretty neat though, for a story over a year old. 8)

Links? Yes.

Credible ones? Still working on that.

You see, a couple of pics transmitted right before the probe was lost, shows Phobos and an "anomaly" right beside it. Now, it´s been years since I was into UFOs and such, but that picture lets my imagination run wild. Sadly, most sites that latched on to it are fringe conspiracy sites yelling "UFO MOTHERSHIP!!!" and "NASA COVER-UP!!!11". There´s also a photo of Mars showing a big shadow on the surface. That was taken a few hours or days before contact with Phobos 2 was lost. Either way, it´s pretty spooky stuff. To me, at least. :P

Most likely a crack team of Marines was sent in to deal with the anomaly. Of course, we haven't heard word on how successful the mission was.

The problem with the whole Phobos pictures is that anything you can find on them are invariably linked to dranged rantings about Greys and the hollow Earth.

The photos are fraking scary as hell, but it's kind of hard to get credible links to the story.

In addition, I thought it was a Russian probe in the 80's, not a NASA probe.

Yeah, it was Russian, but you can always get a NASA-COVERUP ZOMG!!1! out of anything. :P

Ok, I´m not sure how credible Marsnews.com is but I found a link to one of the photos there:

Aye, that is pretty ghostly. It doesn't quite look like the Phobos we all know, but it's interesting.

Yeah, the vaguely potato-shaped thing is Phobos (the moon) and the flute-like thing is the unknown object. *wuuhuuuu*

Most likely a camera artifact of some sort. It's not something to get too excited about, especially considering the quality of the image.

Damned if I do, damned if I don´t. :P

There was another photo showing a shadow on Mars, similar to the mystery object. Can´t remember if it was shown or only described. Sigh, why do I bother?
