Hearing and Thinking similiar?

Post by Boyish-Tigerlilly »

When you are hearing something, your ears take it in and your brain makes sense of the message, right? SO what happens when you are in a completely enclosed, quiet enviornment and you think to yourself. YOu can almost hear yourself think the same way you would if someone were to talk to you. You can sound out and make out the words without ever hearing them.

Is this the same basic principle, only omitting the actual aural portion? Is your brain just making sense of the situtation while skipping the ear transmission?

Ear transmissions get encoded into brain transmissions in whatever cortex ears go to, I think. Then it's that "brain message" that we understand, because it's in the language the conscious brain can use, and imaginary sounds are in that language based on that sensory information, afaik.

So, to answer your question....maybe. But it can usually distinguish between real and imagined sounds (apart from when you're asleep or when "your mind plays tricks on you"), this might be to do with the desire to listen to said sounds (or the intentioned buildup to speaking/listening to your own thoughts), I really don't know.
