How are these handled?

Ok, I posted this on SB and thought I'd post it here too. I've seen other scenarios presented in SLAM before but if it belongs in 'off topic' I apologise. Anywho -

I had a little discussion at lunch with a few mates one or two days ago, and thought I'd get opinions from the group

Scenario1:

Just about 6pm in the morning SETI starts receiving weird signals they can't understand from deep space getting closer and closer to our solar system. A week later a massive object emitting massive amounts of Gamma Rays, Neutrinos and different types of funky particles is detected heading to Earth at tremendous speeds. The object crashes into China just outside of Beijing. Most of the world’s spy satellites immediately start photographing the crash site and they discover that it is a half-mile long disc-shaped object relatively intact (some lights are still flashing).

The Chinese put out a response that it was one simply of their experimental aircraft and that there is nothing to worry about. The rest of the world surmises that the craft is of extra terrestrial origin with at the very least TREMENDOUS power generative abilities (surmised because of the funky particles detected), and most likely advanced technology.


6 hours later, Chinese factories start bellowing vapour and smog into the air, which lasts for a month and blocks the satellite reconnaissance. When the obstruction clears the crash site has been completely cleared and the wreckage at a location unknown. Western intelligence agencies CANNOT get any information on where the craft is stored.

At the UN, the US demands that the Chinese tell the truth about the crash and what technology they have gained from it - the Chinese maintain their cover story. The US then seeks to sanction China, but all of their efforts are blocked by Russia, France, Germany and (wait for it…) Britain! who state that they believe China's explanation.

a) A Republican is in the Whitehouse - what happens next?
b) A Democrat is in the Whitehouse - what happens next?
c) (if the actions a and b are different or if they are not) which action as a result of this situation would yield the better results?



Scenario2:

A new religion announces itself to the world. Their members state that they have existed for the last 1000 years but have not wanted to reveal themselves until the proper time - they have lived in and amongst the traditional religions and they number about 500 million people around the world (little bit more than Buddhism). They state that they are for the betterment and love of humanity by helping people, they:

* set up homeless shelters
* buy buildings for feeding and housing the homeless
* provide free high-quality hospitals for all funded by wealthy members
* donate crap-loads of money (more than any other voluntary group) to charity

Their members have equal representation of every main human race. They are fanatically loyal to their great god "Oob" and his main prophet who lives in the Saudi Arabia - but this fanaticism does not translate into harm towards others of any kind, nor do they follow the prophet's orders without question dogmatically, they only follow the book above all else. Few facts about them:

* Each "Oobist" family has 7-8 children who will grow up to be COMPLETELY loyal to the faith and cannot be deconverted
* They don't proselytise on street corners, in public nor hand out tracts. At their daily meetings (which anyone can attend) however, always out of 30 unbelievers 1 is converted to be fanatically loyal to the religion - they have the highest conversion rate of any religion
* their main holy book is completely unambiguous to all who read it. Their book has no Palpatine-esque type motives, no "kill or convert the infidels" or any such sort.
* their main commandments are that people should love one another, should look out for the well-being of one another, if it harms no one else - then it is ok, national war should always be a last resort but always on the table, empathy.
* they don't have any weird rituals or clothes

They state that they don't want to be discriminated against, and if they find that other members are (in any area), they will hide their religion (as will the rest of their family). There are reports that in addition to their meetings, they have advanced healing type capabilities using strange herbs and potions. There are even reports that they have brought people back from recent death with no harmful side effects. The healed however, become Oobists themselves. Scientists have been unable to replicate the herbs effects and under SS torture of the most brutal kind, adherents will simply smile and say nothing.

They seem to love going for high-powered jobs in politics...

what is done in your country?



Scenario3:

The current president of Russia appears national TV with a team of doctors, pulls off an advanced mask and announces he is an Alien (a Grey), China's leader does the same. They reveal that there are about 2 million of their kind in either country - and that most G8 nations have known about them since the 60’s.

After a week of internal national turmoil the people accept them as lifetime leaders and the Aliens start sharing non-military technology with the entire world (curing cancer/disease/stem cells/fusion/anti-grav and the like).

The countries form a very close alliance the likes of which the world has never seen, and start out-producing the rest of the world in consumer goods, R&D and technology.

One day they test fire a particle cannon of 60GT, which the world sees. Smaller versions of 10KT are then outfitted on their fighter planes, but once a fighter is downed or compromised, the weapon immediately degrades into particles of carbon.
