Opinions of M. Cremo's book, "Forbidden Archeology"

Post by Magnetic »

Someone brought this book to my attention (when I used the argument of how ancient tools are found in upper strata layers, not lower ones) . . . . and stated how they HAVE found tools in lower layers of the geologic column.

Here's a link to the book where you can see an overview.

I don't know how to dress my links!

Opinions?

Book Description
Over the centuries, researchers have found bones and artifacts proving that humans like us have existed for millions of years. Mainstream science, however, has suppressed these facts. Prejudices based on current scientific theory act as a knowledge filter, giving us a picture of prehistory that is largely incorrect.

Publisher: Torchlight Publishing
That's all you need to know.

And as a point of fact, science does NOT 'suppress' facts. That is antithetical to science; without facts, a better understanding of the world, its processes and its history cannot be understood. This is ridiculous.
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

You can't rule something out completely (unless it completely violates Thermodynamics), particularly if they've tried to provide documentation. The reviews don't look positive, though.

The "Dr. Pierce Flynn" they quote appears to be a sociologist. Not the person you want if you're trying to make you pseudo-science archaeology work sound credible.
and stated how they HAVE found tools in lower layers of the geologic column.
This is actually perfectly possible. There is a difference between in situ materials and those who have migrated through the millennia, be it through, cryoturbation, bioturbation, erosion or catastrophe. That's why any prospected area needs to have a geological profile drawn up.

Ghetto edit : not that I have anything against sociologists; I just think they called a random conspiracy nut with a doctor title, field of expertise-be-damned.

You're looking for opinions?

Here's my opinion; it's lunatic fringe bullshit of the worst sort.

Anytime there's a claim of orthodox science suppressing alternative views due to a conspiracy, I say there's someone pushing baldfaced lies.

If these alternative "theories" were worth the paper they're printed on, they would have overthrown the "orthodox" view with a rigorous application of the scientific method and peer review a long time ago.

I couldn't find the words 'cryoturbation' or 'bioturbation' in the dictionary. Could you give a definition of them? Thanks.

The disturbance of sediment layers by frost/thawing cycles and biological activity respectively.

Any source which refers to a scientific conspiracy to silence the truth is invariably bullshit. It makes the implausibility of vast government conspiracies seem minor in comparison, when you consider that this would have to be a conspiracy of global, international scope.

Would anyone like to "take one for the team" and buy this book to see what it is saying? My "BS detector" is still in it's infancy.

Your BS detector is working fine. If you *must* read this book, go thru the library.

And thanks for the compliment. :) A friend of mine sent me that quote.

I'll have my wife do an online check of our local library for the book. Yes, . . . my wife, . . who has stomped me into a working dinner mate.
