After just spending 40 minutes in a doorstep debate with some JWs (I got one pair, then 2 minutes later another pair came along and I decided to go for a FUNDIE BEATDOWN!) they have invited me to participate in one of their meetings, of which bible discussion (which I intend to turn into a debate) is an integral part.

Now. These people are apologists of the highest order, but I managed to beat them on the pi=3 thing (they didn't know what I was referring to).

I need a comprehensive list of debate topics and references.

I also need some JW specific stuff so I can troll for responses if need be.

The JWs are really big on pushing the "Intelligent Design" stuf these days-- have your counter-arguments lined up accordingly, about faulty engineering and the slow cellular buildup of photosensitivity as opposed to eyes just 'appearing one day'...

Ask them if the Watchtower is infallible. If they say it is, ask why the world didn't end in 1914, 1918, 1920, 1925, 1941, 1975, or 1994. The Watchtower Society or its members predicted the end of the world in each of those years.

Take the time to go through Darth Wong's Creation vs Science pages. Copy everything to a word processor, and arrange it in a manner you feel comfortable with. After that, put it onto a notepad, and pretend to write notes on it.

Too bad you couldn't counter-offer an e-mail debate. Say, similar to how DW debated the various others on his page?

Then we'd get to read the e-mails, offer suggestions, proposals, and help identify any potential flaws in the arguments (yours and theirs).

What I like to do in debates with Fundies is:

1. Set 'traps', eg, like the Watchtower thing above.

2. Get them angry, they tend not to think straight and be purely emotional, easier for the beat down.

What is it exactly that's different with JW's. I know this is a naive statement but everytime I ask one (at work usually) they can't tell me anything. They're just blindly following their faith. Who's Jehova and why are they all freaky with their rapture thing?

Don't forget to hit them about the Theocratic War Strategy and their mistranslations in their version of the bible ("Heretic" as "Apostate" for instance, which wildly changes the meaning.).

Most door-to-door JWs don't KNOW of the contradictions and fallacies in the bible.

I know this. There's a temple around the corner from my parent's house, and near my old place.

Religious brainwashing doesn't just include telling them about how wonderful God is. It also includes beating the shit out of the part of their mind that would contradict even completely impossible aspects of their faith and pointedly ignoring the parts of the Bible that would be logically impossible. Go to a Sunday school or a Catholic church. Everyone there - EVERY one - knows that Jesus was crucified and died. But you find ONE who knows enough about Roman history to show why Christian protrayals of the death of Christ are wrong.

You'll spend more time showing that the JW's don't know the ins and outs of their own book more than you'll spend showing them how their book is wrong.

That site is severely useful just considering the gospels. I never noticed the "who was at the tomb" contradiction, although I did always wonder why Jesus' resurrection was more important than the twenty others.
