Hi I wonder if anyone could please help me get the full list of decrees from the First Council of Orléans in 511? On the regular web I can only find references to it as specific new canon regarding but no complete list.
(I'm argiung with someone IRL on the merits of early christendom and he has just pulled clovis from his arse as an example of a noble christian....)

Anybody who says Clovis was a noble christian is an idiot. Don't bother with it.
As for the list of decrets, you can find them in edited latin form in: Monumenta Germaniae Historica (MGH) Conc. I 1ff. Any decent university library has them.
You can also find it digitalized here. Click on text.

A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? A country isn't a rock. It's not an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult! - Chief Judge Haywood

Agreed on the first part. Why I bother is twofold, firstly I'm interested in the period so I'd like to know anyway, secondly to establish that apart from his own repulisve person Clovis can not even claim the council as something "good" he has done.Thanas wrote:Anybody who says Clovis was a noble christian is an idiot. Ouch. Thanks for the source but my latin is non-existant and it being picture scans without text I can not run it through a machine translator either.Thanas wrote:As for the list of decrets, you can find them in edited latin form in: Monumenta Germaniae Historica (MGH) Conc. You can select an HTML format of the pages. That said, there might be some translations out there. Again, the university library is your friend.

Ah, didn't notice the html button. Tried it but the auto-translators fail every third word so its of limited use I am afraid.

What auto-translator are you using?

You could try looking up individual words in William Whitaker's Words, which is the best online latin dictionary I have seen.
