I can't really stress more to this then what's already in the topic's name. This is basically something for my novel and I don't really know or care that much for the stupidities and pointless efforts of the Nazi war research machine, so I'd rather stick my neck out and ask.

I recall once reading something about Nazi's trying to old mental superpowers bullshit routine. Most likely to stay inside the labs instead of being sent to the front lines. Anyway, it was about looking into about training soldiers for themselves to be the weapon, taking control over enemy soldiers and knowing what they are thinking and crap like that.

Was there such a thing? I am pretty sure that the USSR did try to do a familiar routine with a guy experimenting on dogs. So did the CIA did try to use ESP or something with a guy that won't shut up about it to this day.

I know there were some pretty insane plans laid out in front of Hitler that he approved and that such an idea might actually appeal to him. Was there such a program, even if only for show?

IIRC, the CIA's ESP program was a decoy to draw the KGB and GRU's attention away from a program to develop an over-the-horizon radar for tracking Soviet missiles.

As for the Nazi supersoldier project, I looked up anabolic steroids on Wikipedia and found this:

The only more or less documented chemical-mental conditioning program is the USA's MKULTRA. However, Germany did have "superhuman" breeding programs (Lebensborn) and what Sidewinder said, steroids.

Mostly hormonal and chemical ways to "increase" a human's battle-worthiness were tried which actually are continued by various militaries to this day, IIRC.

Dr. Mengele did experiments on concentration camp inmated in order to discover the optimum way to breed Aryan children en masse.

The German and Japanese (and probably other armies) rolled on speed. Enough amphetamines make a super-soldier being the principle, I guess. Apparently contributes to the likelihood of atrocities and errors, too.

Actually it does. It's precisely something what I wanted to have.

A guy that once worked along with the Nazis and had promising results and his own ideas that revolved around brain chemistry. He escaped to the USA and was captured by a secret group there that used his knowledge. He is given some wanktastic stuff to work with, though there are less human experiments (the group in question doesn't just believe "the end justifies the means" but its their fucking motto) and other stuff. In the end, he is able to make serums and things that amplify human body performance yet "stabilise" brain chemistry a bit. The result is a bit grouchy human whom has significantly lowered sensations of terror, pain, love and pleasure.

There's tabloid bullshit about Stalin trying to crossbreed apemen.

As for Nazi related nonsense, I'd like to pitch in this bit of weirdness:

THEOZOOLOGY

And to add more fuel to the fire, General Yamashita in his speeches about why Japan will defeat the European soldiers was because the Japanese were descended from gos whereas the Europeans were descended from apes.
